Completely off topic but someone should know.

My mate has a nice spangly new WinXP machine and wants
to burn some cd's of his old 45 records and tapes etc.

Anyone have any recommendation (cheap or free) software
which will do this for him?

    Thanks
    Alan

I used Polderbits on W2K, worked well transferring my vinyl. It
identifies the gaps between tracks and splits them into separate files.
Use your own cd burning software to put the wav or mp3's onto cd.

Download the Music Converter, Auxiliary Input and CD Writer.
CD Writer is shareware, but worth it.

I just use Aheads Wave Editor Wot comes with Nero. I think it
    is bundled with burners alot.

I haven't used the Noise Reduction bit yet, as this can take ages,
the last album I was burning had a file size of around 300mb.

CDEX will record to WAV from analogue in on your soundcard. Then
stick those WAVs into a CD burning program to make an audio cd.

    It's free.

Simple, cheap, good. Then burn with the software that came with the CD
    writer.

    Oooohhhhh! there's useful.

I used to record to a wav file and rip that to MP3 but it didn't split
    the tracks.

Maybe I *can* get my Alberto Y'Los Trios paranoias album 'out there'
    now...

RIPvinyl does the track splitting (but not MP3 conversion), for a
    quarter of the price.

    That's the badger.

Better track: "Kill", Best track: "Jesus Wept"

And **** me... they've re-released the album, well with a different
track list but the same name:
