It's missing important stuff. For example Entourage will not synch
    tasks. At all. Ever.

It also (IME) breaks it's own files pretty regularly.
    Mac keyboards are lovely too.

I wouldn't touch Entourage with somebody else's bargepole. IME MS and
    email don't mix.
Haven't had a problem with that but then again I use the older file
formats. It's also really important that you have all the service packs
installed. Out of the box without service packs/updates its as bad as
MS's reputation for shipping stuff too early would make you believe.
Not for me, but then again I've got to use Spazz keyboards. I tried
using the aluminium one that came with my iMac but it buggers up my hand
    fairly quickly.

Because by the time I've upped the RAM to 4GB, the processor to at least
match my MacBook, and add the new keyboard and mouse (mine are rather
tired), it's almost as much as the iMac 20". Even then, the Mini only
gets a 2.26GHz processor, and a 5400rpm drive, and at £911. The iMac
    comes with a 2.66GHz processor, 20" screen, and a 7200rpm drive at £949.

The iMac 24" would mean I could get rid of my existing monitor, it comes
with a large enough hard drive, and enough RAM as stock, so I wouldn't
need to upgrade it at all.

I use Aperture, and Raw images, quite a bit, so I do push the graphics
and processor fairly hard. Aperture also runs better off a faster hard
drive. My MacBook's fan is always running when I'm working in Aperture.

So, overall, by the time I've specced up the Mini to what I'd need, it
    really doesn't make economic sense.

    [..]
I almost switched to it, until I'd used it for a short while, then I got
annoyed with it, and went back to Mail.
According to the Apple specs, the Mini-DVI to DVI adapter is included in
    the box.

I like the Apple Keyboards, and against common opinion, I like the old
white ones. Emily even asked me to install one onto the PC, as she found
all the PC keyboards we have to be horrible. Not so sure about the new
flat key designs, I use a wireless keyboard with my MacBook, as I find
laptop keyboards too small for my hands.

Well yes, but IMAP to exchange sort of misses the point as well :(
There was a recent update that could cause total failure of either Mac
Office or Entourage. Damned if you do....
Ahh yes, you have broken wrists.

A reasoned, and logical argument. I appear to be in the wrong group.

You still do. I bought a 24in iMac for my parents at the beginning of
the year and the 24in screen was noticeably better than the 20.

They can get away with the statement because they don't say that the
_hardware_ can display millions of colours. The statement is true
when you include software dithering technology.

For anything relating to photos, you need to 24 for a decent display.

I mainly use Thunderbird as I can get a few plugins for that to support
certain features (like multiple perso^Widentities) that I need from an
email client. Mail mostly does that too so I tend to switch between the
    two.
OK, I didn't dig that deep.
I've never used the old white one, the only ones I've had exposure to
are the ones on my BlackBook and the aluminium one. The one on the
MacBook is pretty good for a laptop and the action seems to be slightly
lighter than on the aluminium one.

Maybe. But it was properly fucked - selecting the text and
copying&pasting into something else also showed it as a fucked,
    non-character, character set, IYSWIM.

Most of my mail accounts are IMAP with MobileMe now, and Thunderbird
makes a horrible mess of them.
Yes, they're a nice action, although being dead flat does take some
getting used too - as well as noty having to push them down so far!

The OSX Leopard Mail App and the iPhone Mail App don't appear to know
what to do with push mail from MobileMe either. Read an email on the
iPhone and it doesn't get marked as read on the Mac all the time, or
move a piece of mail to a folder on the iPhone and the inbox message
count on the Leopard app doesn't update properly. For example, my
inbox on Leopard says I have 17 messages but there are only 2 messages
in it. To correct this I need to go to Mailbox then select Rebuild.
Read an email or delete it or move it in Leopard and the message count
badge on the iPhone mail app doesn't update until one opens and closes
the app on the iPhone. It seems to do push mail when the mail is
sent, but doesn't push the updates (mail read/deleted) until you open
the app and it refreshes the inbox.
I'm quite fond of the keyboard on my unibody MacBook Pro, didn't think
I'd like it. I have a proper spaz keyboard at work but don't feel the
need to have one on my MBP.

The MacBook Pro keys are the same size as those on a normal Mac
keyboard. It just lacks the number pad.

Righto. I only have a plain MacBook, which I think is a smaller
    keyboard.

FWIW, the normal Mac keyboard is also without the number pad, you have
to choose it as an option now.

Line level audio in (as she will find out when she tries to use a
'std' PC mic / headset for Skype etc).

You can either buy a USB mic / headset or a USB to std 3.5mm jack(s)
converter (and what I did. Ironically it works under Windows but not
    under OSX).
