"24 hours in a day, 24 cans in case. Coincidence?"

    "the Bathurst 1000 is a 1,000km (621 mile), three-day race"

    Err, I don't think so.

OK So hands up who can drink 24 cans in a day?

I'm going to have to say its beyond me and I've been practicing quite
hard. "Arakis exists to train the faithful" may ring bells with some of
    you.

"can"? Not so sure, now. "Could" - certainly.[1]

    [1] 24 x 440ml cans is approx 18.5 pints. I've certainly done more
than that in 24 hours on several occasions in the past, inc. one
memorable session at the Straw Hat rally in '84 or '85.[2]

Apparently wine drinkers are allowed 4 litres.

I wonder if people are allowed both beer and wine.

Get a racing licence so the limit doesn't apply?

Surely these are the small cans of piss like lager with little alcohol
content. In which case, most people could, if the bladder could take it.

Yes most "cartons" contain 24 or 30 cans/bottles that are 375ml (a bit
larger than our standard Coke can size). The standard strength is
about 4.6% alcohol so not exactly weak compared to the equivalents we
    get here like Carling.

Think about it though, it's hot there so:
    A) the beer goes to your head more quickly
    B) you don't really want some warm, thick ale with twigs and beard
    hairs in
    C) a big can or pint of beer will rapily go warm so small ones are
    actually more practical

If I could be 27 again, then yes.

The cricket tour that year passed into legend within the club.

    96 pints in six days.

I've no doubt I could do it if I could turn the clock back a few years
    but I'd struggle now.

I was at the 2nd Straw Hat Rally in 1984, mine was the handpainted
black XS250 that spent the weekend dumped on its side and won the
    Rat-Bike trophy.

heh. I'd like to say I remember it well, but I don't.

At the time I had a GS550E[1] but I can't remember whether I had the
horrendous fairing on it at the time.

[1] There's a picture of it on Facebook, but the link to my profile &
photos isn't working at the moment for some strange reason.

You'd have to have someone to open the tins for you nowadays.

How's that going, BTW? Have you had the surgery yet?

I've managed to fight my way into both tins and bottles with no
    problems.
    That's a just about 100% correct.
I had to be at the hospital for 07:30 and was lucky enough to be first
    in the theatre at 09:30

Back in my room drinking tea before midday and in the car going home
before 18:00 seemed like a good day out to me.

I'm due to have the plaster removed and a splint put on the finger
Friday and then the stitches come out the following Friday.

I'll be seeing if I can ride the bike with big gloves on once the
plaster comes off or it'll be the following Friday. If the stitches
weren't on the inside if my hand I'd be more confident of riding this
    weekend...
