Today the untracked snow was generally very heavy, but not at all
crusty. Well-skiied areas were virtual piste, although with the odd
heavy lump to catch out the unwary.

It's looking like the worst of it will hit here (N. Herts) around 18:00
tomorrow night. I am really hoping I can persuade Mrs WUN to stay home
tomorrow. I suspect she'll be a hero. At least she can take the Rav4,
which has 4WD if nothing else.

I've just seen some poor **** on a Pizza Hut scooter doing about 5mp
trying not to fall off. He looked utterly miserable. I hope his
customers are being uncharacteristically generous with tips.

The BBC web site has a rain prediction that is based on a much smaller
cell size than most other forecasts (12Km as opposed to 60Km). It also
goes past two senior meteorologists as opposed to most others that go
past none, or one after the computer spits its predictions out.

It's therefore one of the best sources available in the world.

According to a professional meteorologist of my acquaintance.

My comments stand. My acquaintance does not have a high opinion of the
Met Office and its rigid adherence to computer models.

The Beeb have their own (very professional) meteorologists who can and
    do modify the computer predictions.

*Whatever*, as he also says, met is the only job where you can be wrong
seven days a week and not get fired.

Talking to a friend who said her employer insisted that staff got to the
nearest office unless they were more than 5 miles from any one of them.
She walked 4 miles. When someone tried to phone in saying the snow was a
problem and that person lived less than a mile away they got a right
    telling-off.

No snow here. Very strong winds and there was an almighty explosion this
evening. I'm wondering if my local cell phone mast went bang as I'm only
getting a weak, intermittent signal now.
