but can't be arsed to trog off to France to fill up the cupboard under the
stairs that serves as a cellar.

So, get your credit card out and order 24 bottles of very good plonk from
    Laithwaites for about £76 delivered. That's £3.17ish a bottle.

http://www.laithwaites.co.uk/amex - supposedly for new customers paying
    with Amex only.

Well, I've been a Laithwaites customer for years and paid with an Egg
Mastercard and my wine arrived today.

If you know what a Quidco account is then you may get a 6% cashback.

This has been brought to you by the "don't buy anything from the cunts at
    Tesco Wine Warehouse" service.

I've ordered their "bestseller" case, and got the free one.

I'll see if it's any good, but then for the first order it only has to
be better than around £3 a bottle, so not a huge bar to reach.[/QUOTE]

You should be quite happy with that selection. They wines will be good
value and I've learnt quite a bit from the Laithwaite's mixed cases. They
have excellent buyers that find wines from some pretty obscure places,
    especially within France.

Well, as a new customer, paying with Amex, I have been unable to order.

    I shall complain.

Couldn't agree more - never had worse than a mediochre bottle from them,
and several I've subsequently ordered a case. Plus, I really like their
approach and their telephone chaps are top-notch. Know what they're
    talking about and just.....nice.

Hmmm. £2581.30 since Jan 2003. Some gifts, but....hmmm.

I've probably spent a similar amount with them in that time.

They are nice people to deal with. They used to do some deals at this time
of year where you ordered a case of wine and got a bottle of malt as a
sweetner. I ordered a case which supposedly came with a bottle of Islay
malt. However, on arrival the malt was from Speyside. I sent them an email
pointing out this fact. Mentioned that I'd ordered it as a present for my
dad (long deceased) as he was a big Islay fan. A nice chap phoned.
Apologised and sent out a replacement, saying I could keep the Speyside one
as a good will gesture. When the Islay malt arrived it was a single cask
Caol Ila from the 1980s, retail value about £40.

If you know what you are buying they sell some reasonable stuff at a decent
price. I placed an order using some sort of discount code for some Italian
plonk. They were also running a free delivery promo.

You order by the case from a warehouse. The case is then sent to your local
store for delivery to you, using the normal 2 hour time slots.

I waited in last Wednesday for a 2-4pm delivery. No show, Waited an hour
before phoning. Wine warehouse droid, "must be a problem at your local
store. I will contact them and get back to you." She didn't, so I phone the
local store as I have a direct dial no. to the van delivery office. Nice
chap there said they had not had the wine and were not aware of any order
for me on that day. He sounded sincere.

Following day, I phone the Wine Warehouse. Different droid, "the order was
cancelled, looks like we ran out." So we then had a frank exchange where I
mentioned that the order status on the website had not been changed, they
hadn't bothered to let me know etc etc. I was offered free delivery on my
    next order. I declined.

This has happened once before, about 9 months ago. At that time I wrote to
some executive. They have done **** all since then to change their systems
so they can go **** themselves.

Of course, what they will start doing is sending me vouchers with
discounts. Eventually the value will reach the tipping point where I am
tempted to become a customer again...

I think that's my healthy drinking limit covered out of Laithwaites.
Regrettably, I'm far from being the single-source type. My PSL is in dire
    need of rationalisation.

have you spotted that Laithwaites have now linked up with Sainsbury's
Nectar? Quite a decent introductory offer there. It's for one of the 3
monthly wine plans so you might want to cancel after the first case...the
subsequent ones come in at £60 plus delivery.

  16. I'd only add, late to this thread, that if you can, tick the 'no
contact' box or whatever you do on the paperwork. Laithwaites sells
wine, one way or another, to God knows how many promos (lots of credit
card points schemes, for starters) and they have a *very* active (like
    spam level) marketing team.
