Speaking to Dad earlier and he was complaining that his legs 'feel
like they belong to someone else' and he's convinced it's the statins
doing it. I vaguely remember various UKRMers moaning about them, what
    does he need to know?

He's 67, less than a year post a quintuple heart bypass and has walked
all over a theme park and been on 6 rollercoasters today - I'm
inclined to think it's that rather than the statins but he says it is
    not just today.

My doctor told me to take Simvastatin, so I collcted a pack from the chemist
and read the information leaflet - after reading that I felt the need to
    google for more info.

After reading the more info I decided I'd rather have a heart attack.

You get the cheap statins until you complain of muscle pain to your GP,
when he changes your prescription to the good stuff.

    Utter nutter, no fear.
He wants to ride one of them, to go with the various cars, double
decker buses, lorries and planes (when he's not throwing himself out
of them) that foolish people have let him play with before. I've let
him drive one of my cars before (on an abandoned airfield) but unless
he miraculously gains some sight he can sod right off where the bike
    is concerned.

    Statins
This is what I vaguely remember - what were the side effects listed
and any info you can point me at?

Atorvastatin for me. Can't remember what I had before; it was a few
    years ago.

Surely the sensible option is not to bother having your cholesterol
level checked and simply carry on living life in the way you're
    happiest with?

My doctor told me 5 years ago I should have it checked and I decided
that many years of contractors breakfasts and kebabs left the results
a foregone conclusion and never bothered. I'm not even worried that
the smokes and beer will get me in the end because I've snorted so
many lines of asbestos that nothing can hurt me.

In particular one of the possible side effects is muscle toxicity, which can
cause varying degrees of disability depending how long before its noticed
    and prescription changed.

Another point is that statins should be avoided if there is any doubt
    whatsoever about thyroid function.

Is he diabetic? - feeling like your legs belong to someone else is a common
    symptom of that.

As he says, the trick is to find one that agrees with you. Never mind what
the Doc prescribes the Chemists have to be watched, they try to palm off
    generics.
Obviously with that history he shouldn't stop taking anything without due
consultation. I'm sure the GP will be aware of the issues.

So it's burial rather than cremation, then?

When I was a kid asbestos was everywhere and nobody gave it a second
thought, the boarding school I went to was riddled with the stuff, all the
corridors had asbestos panelled fire doors and most of the dorms were
divided into smaller units with asbestos panelled partitions.

The dorm partitions were that hard asbestos like garage roofs - except not
corrugated but the fire door panels were soft-ish fibrous asbestos that you
    could break bits off of.

Nowadays the slightest hint of asbestos in an old building and in no time
there's workers in hooded coveralls and dust masks all over it loading it
into sealable lorries that won't spread any dust as they cart it away.

If he's convinced the statins are harming him, regardless of the rational
explanation that he is old and has a wonky heart, then the stress is not
going to do him any good. Pack him off to the GP and either get the statin
withdrawn or changed for another brand.

There are loads of scare stories about statins on the web. Most are written
by American people with chronic conditions looking for something to blame
rather than admitting their lifestyle is/was responsible. I'm sure you are
capable of distinguishing between proper research and thinly disguised
    propaganda.

Don't get me started on Michael Cunting Lying Fucker Gove.

I daren't watch the news atm as the outright lies (and I sodding know
they are because I did the research they've buried) are really pissing
    me off.

When I were a lad we had little tins of white asbestos cement for fixing
    screws in walls.
You take a pinch, wet it in your mouth, shove it in a hole and put the
    screw in.
Much better than modern plastic wall plugs. I've probably got some left
    in the shed.

We just had someone retract an offer on our house because of a surveyor's
report. Too dangerous the buyers said. Why, asbestos in the Artex, asbestos
drainpipe and asbestos garage roof, oh yes and asbestos in the thermo
plastic floor tiles. It took us some time to find those, there were 6 of
    them in the pantry. FFS

Hardly unexpected. IIRC, some months before the election I predicted that
he would prove unpopular once he got a sniff of power and his true
    intentions emerged.
