Sennybridge is lovely. On a motorbike. Being 14 years old and forced to
yomp across a marsh was not my idea of fun.

If you want advice on routes take it to email. There are a few roads which
are best avoided for a while as they are heavily used by traffic working on
    the LPG pipeline.

I've not noticed that, to be honest.

I pass one of the pipeline sites, but I've not noticed the increased
    traffic being an issue.

It's the minor roads that come down off Mynydd Illtyd (where the Libanus
tourist thing is) onto the A40 that are the worst. Single track roads, very
steep, covered in thick mud with access points to the pipeline. Meeting a
30 tonner on a corner covered in mud is no fun.

Simialar story up around Talgarth. Although, these minor roads may not be
    on *your* sort of roads...

Ultimately, this is far more useful than making her point her finger at
people, move her thumb like a trigger, and shout bang.

Plus, if civilisation ever collapses she might at least be able to shoot
straight... or hunt for food. It's all good.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid that the route I take won't be my
decision... and I'm definitely walking! Final exercise of basic
    training.

Just looked it up on Multimap - seems there are some pretty big hills.
    Hmm

  9. Funny, that. Same with a colleague, who once pointed an air rifle at me
'for a laugh' and was startled when I dropped flat on the ground and
    started yelling at him.

    "Never, never let your gun,
    Pointed be at anyone,
    That it may unloaded be,
Matters not the least to me."

I recited that to him afterwards and he just looked bewildered.

    I hated it.

I liked the shooting (which I was quite good at) and gliding (which I was
quite bad at) but couldn't get on with the "Yes, Sir, I will" crap.

As I've said before, having lived in and around the RAF I had already
reached my threshold for crab blue nonsense. I mean, it's the civilised
service if you want to do the military rugger bugger idiocy then join the
    Guards.

More fool you then. The respect was earned in my case as I was taking
out pheasant shooting and shown the results of what the gun did.

As did most public and many grammar schools, as mine did up to about
    1970.
Standard! I think the ATC have to secure them rather better these
    days....

    Still made!

I don't think respect is the right word. It has connotations of
    deference.

I'm very aware of the power of guns; I'm also aware of the power of
shoving your hands in the fan blades of a running engine - I view guns in
    that manner.

I certainly don't respect the surrounding culture whether it's gansta,
huffing and puffing country types or camo clad hunters. Or even the
    'machinery' itself.

Certainly my experience, I've fired .303 rifles in the 80s.

Uh you missed out the respectable side of firearms. Target shooting,
preferably at distance. That's a real skill and it takes some mastering.
Also Clays and Skeet, not at all easy and quite good fun.

Really? I see the Trade Union movement as incredibly prescriptive with a
line on many issues which You Must Toe (1).

and no I'm not trolling you.

Actually I think the political element needs to beaten out of the TUC.
It fuckes me right off that half of the Connect magazine is taken up with
their good works on Womens Rights, Racial Issues, BNP, ANL, African Poverty
et all. I pay for one thing alone, looking after the members job security
and employment rights. If they turned all their attention to that we would
all get on a sight better.
While they are at it get rid of all the useless fuckers who are in the Union
movement when they should join a political party and replace them with
bright legal and business minded souls who can do that fucking job I just
    mentioned.

    (1) issues which I disagree completely on

You have to throw the little buggers really hard to get a good range
    though, don't you?

You can get ammo for just about anything. OK you may need to buy the parts
and a manual loader but if one is consuming lots of rounds then that makes
    sense anyway.

Oh yes. I enjoyed target shooting simply because of the skill it
required. I've always fancied clay pigeon shooting but not tried it.

Incidentally there's a rifle range /under/ Brighton station in a disused
tunnel. 200yd I think - I've been down there not to shoot but to marvel
at the Southern Railway era furniture, signage and paint.
