I just remember that "There's no such thing as an unloaded gun" and have
drilled it into my lad, particularly since the time I had a row with his big
sis and he intervened by shooting me in the arse with a BB gun - harmless,
but they can't half sting... As can a thorough arse-slapping.
He now has the best arms safety I've seen in a semi-townie kid, and won't
let his mates touch his BB guns until he's gone through "range safety" with
'em. OK, once they've got jackets and goggles on they play Practical Pistol
around the garden, hiding behind various sheddes and such, but they've never
    shot *me*...

My sister's kids (teenage girls, 8 year-old lad) have been around shotguns
and er, lively air rifles on the farm all their lives and are pretty safe
too, although No.1 niece comes back with some lovely bruises when she's been
doing her saturday job down at the paintball place in the woods!

Ah, you need to try a training exercise with live ammo where if you get it
    wrong you bleed or die.

I'm assuming this was said with a certain amount of irony but it's one of
the most facile pieces of justification.

Mentally ill individual with a gun walks into a primary school and kills
eighteen. Mentally ill individual with a machete walks into a primary
    school and injures seven.

Guns in themselves may not kill people but certainly make the process
    easier.

You know I'm not entirely sure I agree. I think a man with a machete and a
short stabbing knife could do just as much damage.
Of course it's a lot easier to run away from the latter bloke.

You're quite right. Unfortunately in the workplace this is simply not
the case. It's the role of the union to redress this.

Christ, these days if you haven't been up in a plane by the time you're
    5 there's something wrong.

As for the gun, right and proper training for going postal later in life
    innit.

Phil was right in what he said but I disagree with you. It is the job of the
govmint (and EU) to address this. If not then WTF are they for.
It doesn't need Unions banging on about it to tell the govmint they need to
do it. They already know. Pressure should be applied within the parties.

If all the "concerned union members" went and joined their local
constituency party, paid the appropriate dues and kicked up in THAT forum
    much more would be achieved.

If Union leaders and members concentrated on relations with their employers
executive/Board, on productivity, expanding sales, good internal
relations/comms, fair remuneration issues etc etc much more would be
    achieved.

I think you know already I have a huge issue with PLC Directors being able
to take benefit packages and %age increases not applied equally across the
board. I literally seethe over this. Next in line is shareholdings, all
employees should have a financial interest. Third is sale of companies,
employees should have a mandated right to a fair share of the spoils.

    Oh don't get me started......

This is UKRM after all, but in all honesty it wasn't.

I don't want to get into a "Guns are for show, knives
for a Pro" type of debate but, as a lot of other posters
in this thread have already said, there is a lot to
be respected in the way a gun is handled due to the
    damage it can cause.

A gun can easily kill someone no matter whose hand you
put it in, so therefore it's down to the person pulling
the trigger to have the mental capacity to understand
    the consequences of using it.

To say that equipping your local nutjob with a machete
rather than a Glock is a pointless exercise - that same
nutjob would probably run amok with a pencil and stab
people in the eyes given half a chance. It's the intention
of said nutjob that causes the damage rather than the
    method he chooses.

<cough> Where was that? I'm trying to organise a team outing. So far
prachute jumping, sailing and rock climbing have been frowned upon.
Adding a day at the range to the list might wake up the sharper members.

A Glock (or Browning or Webley) is quite easier to conceal though. Have you
tried walking down a high street with a full size machete in your jacket?

I don't think your average nutjob is worried about
concealing anything in their jacket - they've obviously
already crossed a particular line which makes anything
    else superfluous.

Personally I'd go with an Brugger & Thomet MP9, having played
with a TP9 (the semi-auto version) in Prague, as it is light,
small and fires 9mm rounds at a pretty decent rate. Back
that up with an auto-shotty and I reckon you'd get quite
a good hit rate. Oh, and a decent revolver for backup - the
Magnum .357 was a damn fine piece of kit. Not that I've ever
    thought about this, you understand.

My mate organised it through www.topguntours.co.uk as a summer
short break "for the lads". Given that I broke my collar bone
on the saturday then flew out the thursday, I didn't do too bad
and actually won the contest on the day with the least dropped
shots. We did the Full Monty package and then also paid for
some rounds with extra guns they had there on the day.
    Some video here:

We stayed at this apartment complex, right in the centre of
the new town which is the shopping drag:
    http://www.pragueexperience.com/places.asp?PlaceID=996

Ideal for just about everything, including the fact that it
was above an M&S store and only 5 mins walk from the Old Town
and the bars, etc. It worked out at £25pppn for six in a 3 bedroom
apartment - pretty good given the location. We ate out every
night at bars in the town which was always under a fiver a
head off the beaten path. We also booked taxis to/from the
airport with the same site, and they were excellent too.
I think I paid £47 for the return flight as we booked about
    8 months in advance.

Cracking day out, couldn't fault anything, Prague is a great
place and we're going again next year!

TBF the Swiss know a bit about making *stuff*

I liked the S&W Magnum (medium barrel). Not because it was very reliable
(they are) but because it's so utterly Clint.
