Well I have seen many bodies with gunshot wounds, hundreds most
likely, though you'll note the lack of the word "human" there.
Without really knowing what you do I couldn't make any comparison
though I do know that civvy contractors attached to the Staff are
rarely right up at point and knowing that the ratio of support staff
to grunts in the military means than many go right through their
careers without ever seeing more than the results of it kicking off
with the town lads. But like I say I can't make any judgement.
Darsy made the point that this is only one meaning of the R word.
Wiki makes the point that respect is an attitude of acknowledgment
which I think is the right meaning here.

  2. No, she didn't make us unemployed she made us Capitalists and as such we
are automatically anti union. The rest is contemporary history.

I prefer it to sporting clays, myself. I was shooting skeets during
the British Skeet GP at Bisley just the other weekend...

  8. The SE is where it has always been at. Besides, apart from Little
Moscow down The Thames, Essex is a natural heartland of Capitalism and
needed no converting what with every last one of us living here being
    middle class.

Try being in an office with a Royal marine who absent mindedly lays his
rifle on the table pointing right at you and then, to compound the
matter, leaves the room at the end of the discussion having forgotten to
    take it with him.

Some did survive the initial explosion, though. They probably died
later when an oxygen generator went bang.

Had the Kursk had a proper escape chamber or the Russian navy had a
DSRV that could actually dock with the Kursk then a handful *might*
    have been rescued.

I suspect that's more to do with the casing taking the brunt of the
explosion, not the pressure hull, BICBW.
Not for sure, but subs by their very nature have minimal reserves of
bouyancy, less than a dozen percent. IIRC, surface ships usually have
well over 100% reserve of bouyancy, i.e. they can float even if they
take on their own weight of water.

Also, if a sub has to blow main ballast at depth, the sea pressure
prevents the air in the ballast tanks from expanding fully, so even
the reserve of bouyancy that they have is diminished. This is believed
to be one of several reasons why the USS Thresher sank below her crush
    depth.

Cool! Do the passengers get to choose who's a target, or is it done by
    random draw?

Heh. Reminds me of something Spike Milligan wrote about how he met a
German soldier and they figured out that they must have been quite
close to each other but on opposite sides at the same battle. The
German wrote to Spike "...sorry to have missed you..."

I'm not actually trolling. If I got it wrong (I don't think I did, but
I'm at home at the moment and can't check), I'm sorry.

  20. There's a couple of WW2 subs lying in the Firth of Clyde that went on
their first diving trials after launch and never surfaced again.
