    We'd probably have to turn it into a stretch-dinghy first...
    Don't forget some added buyonancy devices - got any XS400 tanks going
    spare?

  4. I was thinking of something that will float, sort of, and ten bods
    paddling like ****. Who needs a cox and a passenger anyway?

    Erm
    <waves hand politely>
    I've got this Kawasaki Zephyr 750 engine sitting in the shed doing
    nothing. Its next to a pile of plastic tubing, solenoid valves and a
    polished cylinder with NO2 written on it.

    Would that, by any chance, be of any use to Sir?

    Anchorpac made by T.T.Boughton Ltd in Amersham but that company has
    gone now.

    Anchorpac as a name and product was bought by a "new" company and
    shifted to somewhere near Exeter IIRC.

    This is UKRM - surely a Reliant Robin would be more appropriate?

    <thinks>
    A Robin shell filled with expanding poly foam.

    <thinks more>
    TOG, 5 litres of said expanding foam into some suitable former could
    save a shedload of hassle and would be unsinkable (1).

    (1) useful if Timo is going to be involved

    Bung a big engine in first and hide it under the foam.

    Actually, I think Hog's idea makes a lot of sense. You'd need some sort
    of strengthening, like plywood glued to the flanks or summat, but that
    might work.

    The concealed engine is a neat idea too....

    They do something similar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Or used to
    - down the hill-climb section. A lot of the Formula One teams have
    entered vehicles and rumour has it that the R&D expended, purely in
    spare time, of course, would fund a few months' racing.

    Construct a strong light wooden frame, something like a pallet with
    sides. Put a big plastic bag (wrapping) around it or rather inside it,
    appropriately shaped with welded seams or whatever. Pour in the foam
    mix. Stand well back. It's always good to have an unsinkable boat/raft.
    The foam expands under some pressure and fills available space.

    It's also easy to break up and dispose of after the race.
