    Whilst we're moaning about service...

I've got a half-decent Smeg combi cooker. It's almost five years old
and needs a couple of small things doing to it; the door seal needs to
be replaced and on two rings I want the gas solenoid safety device thing
replaced since it sometimes doesn't keep the rings burning.

Phoned Smeg and they gave me a number for their local repair agent- once
they'd established it was outside of warrantee. Phoned repair agent,
answer phone; left message (two weeks before Christmas). No response
after a day called again. No response.

Phoned Smeg again, they gave me this number again so I told them it was
useless since their agent didn't return calls. Gave me another number
(for another company they recommend). Called them. after two days no
response. Gave up and will get back to it after the new year.

Now, I'm happy that they couldn't come and see it before Christmas but
cannot believe that they couldn't be bothered to return a call.

Conclusion; don't buy Smeg gear because they don't have the support.

  3. You're welcome. It's one of their many strong selling points, ime. And
perhaps one reason why they've done damn well over Chrimbo, unlike other
    bricks and mortar emporia.

The thing is, until now I've not understood why anyone buys anything from
JL. The rudest people shop there, there again I do go in wearing my
crappiest. The prices are super inflated. The JL coffee shop in Kingston is
great, but only when parents give you "two free coffees" vouchers.

Personally I avoid the place like the plague. However, my parents love the
    place.

Thanks to avforums.com for the heads-up on price matching.

I think there's possibly an element of the good old "it's more
expensive so it must be better" attitude at work there.

  15. In all senses, too. It is reputed that the horse faced one who married
Charlie boy used to change clothes and go straight to hunt balls without
having bathed, after a day's hunting. I bet she didn't half pen and ink.

Well, she *is* part of the class that used to use perfume instead of
    washing back in the 1600s-1700s.

    It may linger...
