    Why anything?

I used to be a news junkie, to a ridiculous extent. A few years back I
broke the habit. Back then i'd do this sort of thing a lot. Now I save
it for the things that will impact on my life - who leads the US is
    one of those things.

Last night I'd been to a lecture, my brain was fizzing with ideas, I'd
had a phone conversation where I argued that I'm not as well informed
as i used to be and on the basis of those things I decided to watch
the debate. Plus it gave me a chance to catch up with UKRM at the same
    time.

That do you as an answer?

I think it could go either way easily and DGAF which one of them wins as
neither of them has the makings of a really good US President and
neither of them could run a really successful Administration. They will
be equally devisive in their nation. So why waste time betting.

As for Usual Nonsense I wager I'm a lot closer to matters in the US than
most of the UK posters and my summing up of the electoral situation
    isn't Thursday morning casual thought.

Commanding a 750 man Air Squadron, combat experience, experience of
incarceration, injury and recovery Vs a Constitutional and Civil Right
    law practitioner.

I don't like law practitioners ever entering politics, in this country
    or theirs!

It would appear that McCain's 'heroic' past is all fiction...

Oh come on. I thought it was delightfully pompous and sufficiently
obvious to amuse me. For small values of amusement. I expected to get
    NFO by Ben and Muddy!!

I'm in *incredibly* good mood today. Had a great ride this morning.
Another due in 2 hours and the long weekend is going to run me
    absolutely fucking ragged ;o)

What the **** use is any of the above in being President?
Whereas this sounds like useful stuff for a President to know.

Actually, I find US politics more interesting that UK politics. It
might come from reading Hunter S Thompson (Fear and Loathing on the
Campaign Trail), PJ O'Rourke, and being a big fan of the West Wing.

You don't seem to understand the role of US President. But then again I
expect McCain and Obama are in the same boat.

Like I said, I hope McCain wins and immediately retired due to ill
health. I'm almost tempted to think Palin is a plant in some right wing
religious conservative conspiracy. If Obama wins he will be executed
within a year or two anyway.

She doesn't have to. Dubya demonstrated all too well that given a big
enough 'tragedy', the President can bypass the Congress, and depend on
the support of the Supreme Court.

Because I'm a fucking anarchist and I'd love to see what happened,
believing that none of them could make it any better if they tried. for
the same reason I won't mind if Obama gets in because there will be an
    underground civil war!

I do think there *are* people who could make a difference, just none of
    this lot.
