Rather geeky, but that's possibly the coolest thing I've seen in quite a
    while.

I saw that after I posted the link. Mental, but I'd really like to be in his
(well insulated?) shoes, must be quite a feeling being so close to a
    lightning.

  6. Piece of cake, unless there's a gap in his Faraday cage...
Not well insulated, but given the sparks under his feet, not
making that good a contact to ground.

He's deliberately standing on a sheet of Perspex; for effect.

Would that be a Faraday cage then?

I kept getting a mental image of Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan.

I just tried that with a Rubik's cube and an assortment of biscuits on the
coffee table. Not a fucking sound!

It was a blue table too, before anyone thinks I'm doing it wrong.

Because there are a lot of them, very quickly, the same way the sound
of a bike engine goes up and down in pitch with the speed (quantity
per second, not how fast one happens) of the deflagrations happening
    inside.

It certainly was, but I think I've found the reason for the non functioning.
    The biscuits were pretty stale.
