Hi all, this post is bugger all to do with motorcycles, but I know there
are many people reading this group and I'd prefer to buy from someone I
'know', albeit nefariously. :) I've already posted this to the caravanning
    newsgroup, URC.

As the subject says, we're after a 4 berth caravan. We're not worried by
make, age, looks etc, and it doesn't have to be fully kitted out, an oven,
for instance, is not really required.

What we do want is for it to be dry and solid. We also need two full length
berths that can convert to a double bed and two more, preferably full
length, but not essential, single bunks or berths. We will want full
electrics, 12v and 240v, 3-way fridge, gas rings and grill and a toilet
space, if not a fitted cassette loo, and as much storage space as possible.

Anything else, including layout is mostly immaterial to us really as it'll
only be used as a 'pits' for when we're racing most weekends and an
occasional cheap week or spare weekend away. We already have all the kit to
go with it though a properly fitted awning might be useful. If all the kit
    comes
with it, no worries but it's not necessary for a sale.

Of most importance is good quality and well-maintained chassis, wheels,
tyres, brakes and fittings. We travel maybe 10 to 12000 miles a year with
our current caravan, so want something that will stand the pace within a
couple of weeks of purchase without me having to do too much to fettle it.
I don't mind if someone's done their own servicing, so long as it's been
done correctly, I do my own after all, and will check wheel bearings,
    dampness etc
    when I come to view.

Budget is flexible to about £5000 but we'd prefer to only spend £2000 ...
    being tight-fisted buggers ... ;)

We live in Doncaster and can travel anywhere in UK to view or collect the
right 'van, but would prefer to see some pictures first and an idea of
what's with the 'van and what price is being looked for.

    Cheers.

You have become The Enemy. Expect no sympathy here; no quarter will
    be given.
Just pay for a B & B and have done with it.

You're fucking mad, eybody else on the road [1] will hate you.
You need to talk to Sid The Punk. He had three or four caravans that he
didn't know what to do with cos he couldn't tow them with his Ural.
e-mail me off lisy and I'll give you a phone number

    <snip much perversion>

Just use a bloody hotel. It does work out cheaper. Really.
(and you won'y be such a PITA on the road either.
As Bear said, just 'do the right thing'. You *do* need therapy.

That's 'cos you're supposed to bolt them to the side of Urals. One at
    a time, obviously.

JB came up with the following;:
No it doesn't. We use the caravan as pits for Model Car racing, Trials bike
riding and Motocross racing. As such we're usually in out of the way places
that might have one hotel available for 120 families ... and as I also get
paid expenses to be 'on-site' I _need_ a caravan and awning. A tent, which
we also have for some smaller venues, just doesn't work as well.
Nope. We use a Landrover Discovery towing a very light (<1000kg) caravan.
We don't go any slower than 'normal' cars and a damn sight faster than most.

You are aware of the speed limits for towing vehicles, aren't you? I
mean that in the same sense as I am aware of the speed limits as
    applicable to motorbikes...
