OT : Wireless Security Cameras

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Brownz \(Mobile\), Nov 23, 2007.

  1. Tis something I should really know about, but don't have the foggiest
    actually.

Is there such a thing as a standalone Wireless Security Camera that can
serve direct to a network without being connected to a PC ?

For remote viewing whilst out of the house etc.

Or is it best for me to build a small celeron/sempron box with a couple of
    ..5TB drives to stick in a cupboard as a security box/nasbox ?

    Advice from knowledgeable foak appreciated.

Yes, we've got some round the school where we can't run Cat5 although I
don't know off the top of my head what make/model they are. I can find out
if you're still stuck by Monday. I'm fairly sure they cost around £140 each
though and knowing the IT people, they may well be from eBuyer or Maplins.
You stick a fixed IP address in (somehow - presumably they offer a config
utility hia http) and there's a simple HTML page which displays the picture
or you can incorporate the code into your own page. The picture's quite
good even under fairly low light conditions although they don't handle wide
contrasts in lighting very well like looking out of a dark room through a
    sunlit window.

Not much help, am I? At least you know they exist though.
