Twenty a day? -- Dave GS850x2 XS650 SE6a "It's a moron working with power tools. How much more suspenseful can you get?" - House
Nothing. You're fucked with your current mentality. Stop counting the hours - it's not important. If you want to be a non-smoker then don't fucking smoke any more. That's it; congratulations - you are now a non-smoker. Pats on the back all round. All that "it's been X hours", "it's been Y days", "I haven't had a fag for 3 years" is a load of shit. If you don't want to be a smoker then don't smoke any more. Easy. It's not a gradual process, you know. If you're really finding all that difficult to give up, then maybe it's a sign that shouldn't bother trying.

'Know' in what sense? There certainly *is* a physiological component, but that's compartively short AIUI. Worked for me. Working still, in fact. Given that nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs in existance you're either joking or being a tosser. Or both, of course.
Just have a search on the interweb for Weekend Headaches. Thousands of addicts suffering every Sunday because they don't associate the drug with the pain.
Interesting. Although my comment was based not on association with the pain, but the positive effect. Still seems to hold true though. /me shrugs -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) 116 Giulietta 3.0l Sprint 1.7 145 2.0 Cloverleaf 156 V6 2.5 S2 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk
Then do it for your kids. They don't want to lose you to a smoking related disease, it's not a pretty way to go.
Often quoted, but many studies supporting this idea use apparent dependence on tobacco products as a key measure of the degree of addiction, and are therefore somewhat skewed by the simple desire to smoke "because I enjoy it". STY's point, while over-general, does have an underlying basis - there are many factors, as you're fully aware, in stopping smoking, of which genuine, physiological dependence is clearly one, but it's not possible to isolate them, as there's never been, and never will be[1], a control-based study to separate psychological and social issues from the purely physiologiocal. In any event, I do believe that a significant proportion, possibly the majority, of failures-to-stop-smoking are at least partially caused by the desire to stop being based on social or other external pressures, and that the smoker, deep-down, doesn't want to stop in and for themselves. On UKRM? Surely not. [1] Because getting a group of non-smokers to start and remain smoking for several years, half on tobacco and half on "placebo" isn't really a practicable approach. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. I just stopped smoking one day, should it have been more difficult than that? There's more to addiction than just the chemical.
Sure but you can delay the onset and live a bit longer by virtue of a few, simple lifestyle choices. It took ages for emphysema to kill my Nan and she wasn't that old.
