    They is well hard, man.

Unfortunately, showing them to Danny and Carl means that my entire life
seems to be dominated by posh sounding chavs at the moment. I is
wondering if I can claim some compensation and thing, isn't it?

Bastard. I was smugly alluding to the fact I never started. ;)

    But then you knew that.

    Wha?

I was replying to Soy, who said he'd been on cigs for longer than 42
years and then stopped. Therefore, *he's* the old codger.
    I did.

  16. Just relaying my experience. "Trying to give up smoking" means you're a
smoker who's "trying" not to be one, and smokers, sooner or later,
smoke. It's the defining characteristic of a smoker after all.

Becoming a non-smoker is an instantaneous process. Not a gradual one.
You smoke a fag, you put it out. You don't smoke any more fags.
    Congratulations. You are now a bona-fide 100% successful non-smoker,
just like all the other non-smokers in the world.

All that "Aren't I good? I haven't had a cigarette for 3 days now." is
smoker talk. It leads right back to smoking again. You don't hear
non-smokers walking around saying "Aren't I good? I had a drag on one
of my mates Benson's in 28 years ago but decided I didn't like it."

Anyway, I know what I mean. I'm certainly not joking, and I'm not
trying to be a tosser. Not deliberately, anyway.

You might know this in retrospect, but not at the time. And it's
definitely, for some at least, counterproductive to think in these
    terms.

I'll argue the toss a bit more when I get back. Off to catch a ferry.

  18. Hmmm... well I'm not arguing (not about this anyway...). I already know
I'm right, and arguing further might well undo all the frankly
    fantastic work I did above.

Google for "Rational Recovery". He may be annoying, smug, American with
a big nose and a silly beard - but he has broadly the right approach to
addiction for people like myself (and, I suspect, Lady Nina) who tend
towards logic and deep analysis of their addictive behaviour, IMO.

  19. Pretty much, I believe. I've stopped smoking when I've felt shit because
    of it, no other reason.
