Wrong. See the research with twins on genetic transmission of innate
    ability.

Oh. That. One gag, strung out to a 2 min sketch, and then repeated
every week. And it was only slightly funny the first time anyway.

I guess I'm with Ogden's missus on Armstrong and Miller.

Drinking furniture polish ... it's a horrible death, but a lovely finish.

That much I am prepared to accept.

However, not picking up an instrument because "I don't have any
musical talent" is a foolish attitude. You may not have enough talent
to be appear at the Albert Hall. Or even in your local pub. But, you
almost certainly have enough for you to be able to enjoy yourself.

Like I said earlier - you just have to find a way to toggle the switch
    into the other position

    .... then it's a piece of piss

That was me when (25 years ago) I smoked. Any more than about 10 a day
    and I'd start feeling sick.

When I left Polytechnic I just stopped. I sometimes get the craving but
it's pretty easy for me to override.

I've smoked (a little) since then on various bike-tours (as a social
thing). But again - I didn't feel the *need* to smoke. And it wasn't a
problem not smoking if the others were not - or stopping post-tour.
    Indeed.

  14. You want to share mind bleach with Cane? Ewww.

Lets face it - the stuff that surpasses *his* tolerance is probably
    weapons-grade smegma..

  15. Indeed. But if they are either tone-deaf or rhythm-deaf to start with
they won't get very far - no matter how much they practise. They have
to have a basic level of potential.

The old saying of "99% perspiration and 1% inspiration" applies.
    Idiot savants :)

I have a vague memory of a well-known folk musician who famously had
the ability to work out how to play any instrument within about 10
minutes of picking it up. And play it well - not just "make a noise".

I play several intruments (guitar, bass, keyboards) - all to a pretty
low level but enough to enjoy myself if playing them alone..

I don't play any of them well enough to play in a band. I *used* to be
able to play bass well enough - when I was in a band 25 years ago. But
(to prove the point) I haven't practiced since I left Leicester Poly in
1987 and so have lost the skill.

I guess. I always thought that with the guitar it was really pretty
straightforward to get to the point where you could bang out a few
    chords that sounded recognisable.
I was so naive as a teenager that I was genuinely surprised when I
found that being able to play the guitar impressed girls.
    You never know...
