I have an Iomega 100Mb zip drive I want to use on my new computer ; OS = XP
home. I plugged the drive into LPT1 and the computer can't see it.

I tried 'add new hardware' in control panel, still no zip drive. (The drive
    works on the old machine).

Alas no floppy drive on the new machine to try the installation disc in. I
did try the extenal floppy from the laptop but that too plugs into LPT1 and
    cannot be seen.

Bin it and buy a compact flash reader for a fiver, and some cf cards of
around 128mb capacity for about the same. Plug into usb port, voila,
instant removable drive recognised by windows.

I got a half gig usb mp3 player that can be used for transporting files
for an early birthday present. Not expensive, you can find them on ebay
for about 35 quid all in.

I got one wiv an fm radio in too...
So much easier than toting a clunky old zip drive around, and of course, you
run into the 'no floppy drive to install the drivers' problem wherever you
    go.

I forgot, this one has a radio in it too. It's bigger, faster and than
my IBM 340meg MicroDive equipped Zaurus for listening to music on.

Sorry JB, I didn't tell the whole story to save bandwidth. I put my Zipdisk
on eBay to get rid of it. It went for £2.31 plus realistic postage. Not
worth the effort of walking to the post office really. On the bright side -
I will have a space on my shelf.

I wanted to check (a) it was still working (b) that I had removed my Wife's
backup files; although no one in their right mind would want to read
    thousands of lesson plans/schemes etc.

Thus I needed to have quick look at the disks.

Given the tiny sum it went for I am now wishing I had simply binned it.

Best to go out and buy yourself a memory stick

What mode is LPT1 set to in the BIOS ?

Do *not* use the driver on the supplied floppy with XP. The W2K
driver you can dowload should work just fine (does for mine).
