No feedback so looks like he is a new player in the Ebay to riches scheme.

Well normally if it sounds too good to be legit than it probably is not.

    Pitfalls -
    May be stolen equipment.
    No warranty
If you do COD you must pay for parcel at Post Office before receiving and
    viewing contents
He has no feedback/history even though he has been a member since October

When ebayers scam they usually list a number of items to collect as much as
    possible before doing a runner.

I could be totally wrong and this guy is great. I would be inclined to pick
up from him, get the serial number before purchase and check with Dell
then when picking up the laptop confirm it is the same serial number he
    supplied.

If you pick it up you have an address to give to the cops etc if the deal
goes south. If he delivers you have a rego at best if lucky.

    Good luck.

  4. I've already found he has the same laptop advertised 3 times (same serial
    number).

the exact same laptop is currently being auctioned at Grays online finishing
21/1 also(Dell is the vendor), at Grays there are many of them and they all
have different serial numbers strangely enough.

can't sell the same thing three times methinks, especially if someone else
is trying to sell at the same time.

COD means you pay the Post Office before you collect your goods (ie you
don't get to see them first). This is the easiest way to scam someone as you
can't see the goods until you pay for them, and once you've paid for them
the Post Office won't give your money back for any reason.
If you are interested, email the guy and ask for the Service Tag, then ask
if you can pop around for a look beforehand. This should sort out how honest
    he is.

  6. No, I meant he agreed to deliver to my door and I give him cash. With a no
feedback trader like this, I wouldn't trust it any other way, but it's
    already way too fishy.

He's not willing for a pre inspection.

  7. laptops are a dime a dozen, a new trader is not necessarily a risk but one
with multiple listings of the same item is either stupid or shonky and not
    worth the risk.

Starting price is about AUD$2000 too low. D600 is a current
model, and at those specs, will sell for somewhere in
    the order of $2000-$2500.

    Sure he will. Run screaming.

  9. I've already figured that one, just couldnt see what was wrong in the first
place. It must be an older variant of the D600, they're advertised as
1.6Ghz, the current ojne is 1.8Ghz.

IIRC, they come in a bunch of different speeds. The
only one I know of that you can't choose your speed
is the X300 (which happens to be the one I have). It
was 1.3GHz when I got the first one, and the current
one is 1.4GHz. The Dell rep reckons they're using the
slower processor in them because they're little, and
can't effectively deal with the heat from the faster
    ones.

POST: Just had a squiz on Dell's retail site. The
    D600 is available with 1.7GHz, 1.8GHz and 2.0GHz
processors at the moment. I guess 1.6GHz wouldn't
be too much older - I'm pretty sure that all the
D550s that I have (effectively the same box) are
    1.6GHz machines.

I did the same with the staintunes. The seller had no rating and offered
    cod.
I made sure I had his mailing address and telephone number and then
looked them up in the whitepages to make sure.
THEN I went to the ;post office and collected them
    Very happy camper.
I was the only bidder so buying a set of toons for half price was a big
    plus.

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer
    available for sale.
