Out of petrol

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Kevin Stone, Sep 13, 2005.

  1. I counted five fuel tankers on the stretch of M25 I travel, back from
work (J5 -> J7). My guess is that the petrol companies have been topping
off as many filling stations as possible during the night to get things
    back to normal.

Incidentally, after the 2000 fuel dispute, the government quietly[1]
lifted the 41 tonnes weight limit for fuel tankers which, if brimmed,
would weigh in at "How Fucking Much?". Hauliers were told: "Just get the
stuff out there" and were running at 60 tonnes+. The dispensation ended
    after a week or so.

[1] As in: it didn't make the papers.

My van's got more than enough fuel to get me to work but I'll be
filling it at the first opportunity and then as frequently as I feel
    the need to do so.

I've just been out and filled the car with diesel. Not another car on the
    forecourt.

I'm off to Weybridge this morning (100-ish miles) and I had just too little
fuel for comfort. Now I've got enough to go there and back three times
    over...

  6. that could have been fun if a road bridge over a railway had collapsed
as a full tanker went over the bridge.

  7. Yes but it makes a good story doesn't it.

Still a couple of days to go before I may need to turn into a murdering
lunatic with WUN at my side.

And I noticed that this evening some reporter on News 24 said
something along the lines of "So nothing happened, but do the
protesters have something secret hidden away to be brought out next
    week?"

  9. Yes. Staff at the local Tesco/Esso 6AM-12PM shop on Cowley Road
were highly bemused tonight at the way their custom had dropped right off
again to normal levels. Two nights ago they were queueing down the road.

I saw about a dozen ice cream vans hacking down the M1 at various points
    on Saturday

Does this mean we're in for a dearth of Walls and nobody's realised it ?

The news is annoying me by saying in one sentence "Stations sold 6 days fuel
in a day yesterday" and then "pumps were quieter than normal today".

    Ermmm, Hello. Pretty obvious connection...

Told you I'd be back. <g> House transfer into my name finally
completed on Monday. It all feels very strange.

So you decided about the EOSM yet?

Pretty much. If it's nice weather I'll be paying a visit during the day
on Saturday, but I'm not stopping.

I'll be the lonely one sipping a Coke in the car park...

Thanks, but it's not that. I'm going to be away for five weeks soon, on
top of all the other stuff this year. Home time is precious ATM.
    That's true.
