Went out with a couple of friends and had a go on a my mate Martin's SP1 yesterday evening, an interesting ride being the first time I'd ridden a big V twin. The gearing for first is quite high, not a problem with getting moving because it has enough torque but does make riding around town at the speed limit awkward. On the open road even a cautious[1] twist of the wrist sent it leaping for the horizon and highly illegal speeds were reached very quickly, seemed to turn in really fast[2] but felt a bit strange leaning it in so I wasn't as committed as I might have been[1]. I enjoyed the blat but for me the riding position would be crippling after even a short while. I could feel my back and thighs complaining after only a few minutes, so crossed off the shopping list. We then decided to head for the cafe at Bury Hill http://www.nicktec.co.uk/buryhillmain.htm the road from Pulborough to bury hill having some interesting bends[3] especially bury hill itself climbing up from the village going south, down is not so good only one lane to play with. I thought I was hanging off all I could around the last left hander at ~100 but the peg must have been just grazing because Martin said there was a shower of sparks as I went round ;-) There where a couple of guys stunting and full marks to the guy on a GSXR1000 wearing a only helmet[4] and a thong. Then a quick zoom back to "The Blue Ship" for a couple of pints, which nearly ended in disaster on the last bend at 15mph or so, it was just getting completely dark ~20:15 thereby hiding the gravel spread across the bend. I slithered around inelegantly, Martin did a speedway impersonation, foot down bike sideways and I didn't see Neil's effort. [1] it's not mine and I didn't want to break it ;-) [2] New tyres the day before Pirelli Diablo [3] Also the road where I dinged my daughters car ooops [4] For the safety Nazis -- Ian From & Reply-To are valid but filtered http://www.despammed.com znvygb: (ROT13 all of it to mail me) FAQ here http://www.ukrm.net/faq/index.html 98 FZS600, 72 T120R two#34 MIB#21 TWA#6
