Outback Adventure Anyone - Off centre Rally 14 -15 August

The Bi Annual Off centre rally is on again this year. Innamincka in the far
NE of SA is the venue for this the 10th off centre Rally.

The Off centre rally is a meeting of mainly off road tourers (there are
always some crazy roadies there) in a remote location, the rules for the
location are: it must have petrol and beer and have 200km of dirt road from
any direction. Usually there are 60 - 90 bikes at the meeting. All riders
and all types of bikes are welcome

The rally moves around every time and generally follows an East of centre
event followed by a west of centre event at the next one.

Innamincka is a great place with huge waterholes surrounded by desert
country so the concentration of bird life is amazing. History is all around
you there with the restored AIM hospital and reminders of the Burke & Wills
tragedy, you can even camp at the famous dig tree.

Here are some stories of past Off Centre's to wet your appetite.

I'm likely to attend, leaving Melbourne on about 11 August
and riding there the easy way, maybe coming back some
    more interesting way.

Knobblies on the XX? Big travel suspension too perhaps? A "Gee-Esque"
version? Hmmm... May have to unlink the brakes for all that dirt work. Can
only imagine what 240 would feel like up a dirt track...

Faarrk - this is exactly the type of trip I want to do. Why didn't I buy
    that big Beemer??? :)

    Cheers,
    Dave ZZR600 => ST2 (stolen) => '03 XX
    .... hmmm... probably about $5,000 reasons I didn't actually.

    Oi! I resemble that!
Eh? There was only about 100km of dirt to Urandangi from Mt Isa last
    year!

I'll almost certainly be there. If not, it's because I'm enjoying a
    4-month soujourn as a convict.

Ok greg...this sand biz.... ? I have ridden some bad arse beaches on beemers
& know too well of their downfall in the fat pig stakes. Is the sand deep
like the high tide stuff ? Or can you actually pull 2nd gear ?

I just couldn't cope with the guilt any more, so I went to the police
    and turned myself in.

Yes, *I* let the dogs out. :-(

    John,

how long is a piece of string ???. The depth of the sand depends on the road
and how much traffic and when it was lasy graded. The OCR at Innamincka is
very doable for anyone, you learn as you go. The main roads to Innamincka
are good for outback roads (there are plenty of harder options for the
adventurous) and it would be a good introduction to outback touring as long
as you dont set yourself a to demanding schedule and realise that good is a
    relative term.

the sand is not like beach sand !!!. I travel through many sandy patches at
100kmh, its best to keep some momentum. Knobby tyres help a lot.
