Outlook has lost 2 of my email folders. One is quite important as it has
every email I've wanted to save from the past year in it. I'm getting
this message on a greyed out background every time I try to open either
    folder:

"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the
    specified folder location."

Any clues as to how I might find the missing folders and how they might
    be reinstated please.

Search for .pst or .ost files on your PC.

    Normally stored in :

    C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings\Application
    Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Then in Outlook, click "File", "Open", "Outlook Data File" (In Outlook
2003, it's something like "personal folders" in Office XP) and choose
the place where the .pst/.ost files are.

I'm assuming that this is Outlook and not Outhouse Express.
