I agree, that's why many people don't contest it, it is however a very
    contestable charge

Bugger, Rex Tout hit one there on the way to the Long Flat Rally many
    years ago.

I don't recall any kangaroo warning signs on that stretch, although
there are on the straight flat bit before the windy's (on both sides)

I think the presence or lack of kangaroo warning signs is a bit of a
furphy. You can reasonably expect to find both kangaroos, and signs
warning of the presence of kangaroos on just about every road in the
country outside of the suburban mainland capital cities. The
concentration of kangaroos however will vary from place to place, though
the presence of warning signs seems to be pretty uniform across a lot of
    the country.

I find the best indicator about the presence of (and risk presented by)
kangaroos is the presence of roadkill (which in itself is a function of
the number of roos and the quantity of traffic on any given road). From
my memory of my trip through NSW back in June, there was **** all
roadkill on the Oxley Hwy, a road pretty well travelled. In contrast I
rode a small backroad between Muswellbrook and Jerry's plains, which I
wouldn't consider would carry very much traffic, and it was littered
with roadkill, and one of our photos revealed about 25 roos standing
near the road about 10km from town.

My favourite one is on Julimar road out of Toodyay. Some wag has added a
jagged ridge to the kangaroo's back. Kangasauras!

I am pretty sure that there are also signs warning that there are unfenced
paddocks - beware of cattle around Gingers Creek.

    Hey mate,

how's it going? Them brings back old mammories eh? A few miles have passed
since the old ZZR and hopefully the riding has improved a bit.

I'm going overseas on Sunday, back on 14 Sep and straight to the MotoGP,
back in Sydney on 18. The plan so far is to head to Wauchope to see the
olds. I'll certainly let you know mate.

I remember the magnificent XJ! Have you still got it? As for Sat blasts -
I'm trying to get out a bit, honest but damn it's hard to get up on weekends
    sometimes! :)

    Cheers,

  9. Yeah. That's the bloody problem with trying to be prepared for the
    unexpected: it's sooooo... well.... unexpected.

Virtually wrote off a Nissan Bluebird years ago, on a kangaroo between
Inglewood and Warwick at 10:00 am.

  10. Excuse me? I come on here and say stuff like: "Try the reasonable man
defence" or "common sense will prevail", and I get flamed for being
naive or thick or both. Nev says exactly the same thing and *nobody*
sinks in the boot? Is this a ng bias towards Honda riders?

That last sentence will make a decent basis for a letter asking to have
the charge reviewed. Unfortunately, if, as Pete has pointed out below,
there was no fresh roo carcass on the scene at the time, and the cop who
wrote you up figured you were just using the cliche excuse people use
when they crash out bush, that is likely going to be difficult,
particularly if you have anything other than the most spotless of
    driving records.

Bad idea. If you're the type of person who sees going to ACA as a means
to an end, you're probably stupid enough for them to easily make an
    idiot of you.
maybe you should investigate the correct meaning of 'counter' in this
    context.

I had little evidence for the roo, but was still finding emu feathers a year
