How do I *know* that fuel is actually being consumed to feed the lights?
I can't measure it, so can't say for sure whether fuel is actually used
or by some factor I haven't thought of, saved.

I changed my gearing from 18/43 to 17/45 expecting to use more fuel but
the economy improved significantly, to my surprise.
    Pooo! Don't go there...

Yes, we're from two very different worlds. And that fact doesn't upset me in the slightest.

  4. Just because something is immeasurable, doesn't mean it isn't there.
Variation in cosmic background radiation wasn't measurable until the
1960s, yet I'm prepared to wager that it has been there for - oh let's
see - the last 10 billion odd years.

To suggest that the production of electricity uses no energy, is to run
counter to current laws of physics (notice I say 'current' - cause
theories have a historical habit of being superseded).

You probably have a 60 watt globe in your bathroom. You know it uses fuel
because it's use is measured and you are sent a bill for it. The globe uses
1Kwh every 16 hours 40 minutes so it costs you about $0.01 per hour to run.
You know all this because it is a measurable and measured thing.
Do you think the headlight on your motorcycle does not use any power just
because it doesn't have a fuel consumption gauge on it?
Only you can decide when your headlight, or your bathroom light, will be on,
and whether that usage is waste or not.

Well, I know _you're_ from earth. Hammo, I still haven't figured out. I know
it's not Mars because my uncle Martin says he's never hears of him.

Your figures will show that the electrical power is immeasurable? Or free?
Immeasurable only because it is so small as a percentage of fuel use that
nobody cares in that vehicular system? Does that mean it is zero? I think
not. My domestic electricity supplier has no difficulty noticing, and
billing me for, the power draw of my ceiling smoke detectors. They consume
well under a watt each and probably cost me a cent or two per year to run.
But they _do_ use power and therfore consume some fuel.

Who's this Ron bloke and which side of the argument is he on? I must have
him kill-filed as being a mate of Hammo's.

Do you have anything to say that isn't intended to be underhanded? Does it
make you uncomfortable that we probably have more in common than you are
    willing to admit?

Me? I'm definitely in the camp that fuel converted to light is not a
waste, but fuel converted to a red glow under the bonnet probably is.

What size light globe does RON use in his bathroom? 91, 95, or 98?

    Too late!
I don't know. I was wondering if it was possible to determine a better
calculation for fuel conversion utilising the testing that is derived to
calculate RON and MON. It becomes clear that back of envelope calcs are
    good for that purpose only.

re: your post, that'd be the final word as there is not a another system
attempting to use the "power". Refer Ignition system.
Please. I'm on days off now!!

Make it a very large one.
