As Champ is not forthcoming I will have to report that he got the
Nordwest up Prescott in a time of 54.74 seconds. This betters my
personal best by a couple of seconds and fulfilled his self imposed
target of a sub 55. This was helped by some between run tinkering with
idle speed and ride height and getting used to pulling a higher gear out
of some bends in classic single fashion.

It would please Gyp, however, that one particular, also road legal,
    machine was quicker.

Platypus, Burnt and Sweller were there to see the fun.

The dreaded 'last meeting of the year' syndrome affected me as usual,
(memories of a big off at Three Sisters in '89) so I was very
disappointed not to go as well as in June when the conditions were not
    as good.

BTW - the non-returning throttle after the last run was caused by the
return cable adjuster having unwound itself somehow from the twist grip.

When I saw platy's photos, I thought the JCB was a wacky races style
hill climb vehicle. Then I saw what it was really for.

I had a great time. I was also quite impressed by the way that you, while
lining up for a start, hopped off your bike and ran over to blag me in
through the gate. "He's my mechanic" - heh.

Glad you enjoyed it. What I omitted to tell you is that the 56.?? run I
did a few years ago was probably on the Husqvarna that later won the 750
class championship ridden by 'Knuckles'. Remembering the time 'Stoppie'
Windys did on this bike once compared to my best (though at a different
hill), I think you were pretty much at the limits of the Nordwest's
capabilities. It's a funny old game though, and given a few more runs
you might have been able to find another half a second or so.

So now you can speak about singles being shite with greater authority.

Nice paddock atmosphere isn't it? There is a true story of the two
riders vying for the overall championship on similar bikes sharing a
wheel spindle nut to ensure each got in their runs in the last round.

In fact ,I had managed to acquire a paddock pass for you and had my
phone switched on for once. Didn't really think stopping at Ettore's to
answer it would improve my time so I left the pass and phone in the
    paddock.

As it turned out, you arrived at an opportune moment, such that there
could be no chance of the gatekeeper denying my competitor status. That,
together with an attempt to use Bugatti owner type language seemed to
    convince him to admit you.

Champ looks quite determined doesn't he? The usual NHCA photographers
were there so when they post something up on the web site I will give a
    link.

Where is there *ever* honour in winning by default?
I recon there're way more drinks you can get bought by coming a very
charitable second to a better person :eek:P

What the ****'s honour got to do with anything?

Winning is what counts, fair means or foul.

I'm sure I've heard Champ trot out the old favourite about second
    being the first loser.

  15. That looks quite interesting - good impression of speed as the loons
come barrelling up the top to the curve. Bit far off, though.
Was it held on a driveway of some (ex or current) stately home? The
Doone hillclimb was like that, afair.

    In communiqué <>, Grimly
Not sure if it was some kind of estate when the BOC acquired it. It has
to be said that it is by far the most glamorous hill climb venue,
(excepting Goodwood). Also AFAK the only one to have featured on Top
Gear at least a couple of times.

I did Doune on the one occasion bikes used it twenty years or so ago.
We only did 'demonstration' runs as it had no ACU track licence. Still
hasn't, because they wouldn't grant one seeing as the first couple of
hundred metres were lined with railway sleepers. I never actually got to
the top because the SWM had one of its ignition charging coil tantrums.

I knew as soon as I posted that I risked excommunication for that. Never
my strong suit all that rules of grammar and punctuation stuff, as I
discussed once with Mr Auvache. Perhaps if I resort to Victor Borge
<Kweek> s phonetic punctuation system I might concentrate better
