I've just picked up one for the Zed today for basic maintenance on the
    bike (Chain stuff, mainly).

I've never used a paddock stand before. Any tips (apart from don't drop
the bike) on how to use the fucking thing?

    I use 3 steps.

    1) locate paddock stand forks under both bobbins - paddock stand is
therefore at same angle of lean as bike

    2) push bike upright using left hand on seat, holding paddock stand
steady with right hand hand as it too comes upright. Bike is now
vertical, still resting on rear wheel but steadied by paddock stand.

    3) push down on end of paddock stand to lift rear wheel and bring
    forks (and bobbins) over-centre.

    Thanks, this is my case.
I was more concerned about dropping the bike, tbh. Thanks for the info.

I said retarded, not "still wanking over a life-size cardboard cut-out
    of Christie Brinkley"

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

The clue is in my sentence. I've never used a paddock stand before.I'd
rather ask ukrm as opposed to dropping a few grands worth of machine.

OK, you're right, I'm sorry. They're very complicated contraptions and
only some kind of rocket surgeon could use one without detailed
    instructions.

Just make sure the mate in question knows he has to catch the bike.

Otherwise he might stand by and watch the bike fall with glee.
(Not that anybody here would countenance such behavior, of course :->)
