Looking from your neck of the woods are there any used bikes around with
Armec leaning sidecars on the market?
www.armec.ch. Though they advertise in the USA it is a Swiss company.

The fact that they're right hand sidecars might mean you'd have major
issues fitting one to a bike over here.

I can't be arsed to search out the regulations regarding fitting a r/h
chair to a UK registered bike but I doubt if it's legal. Obviously
buying a complete outfit would be a way of getting past this obstacle
but the price would be a bit high for a toy.

You can fit a RHS chair to any pre-1981 bike. After that date, you're only
allowed outfits that veer into the oncoming traffic when you close the
    throttle.

I'm sure one cannot legally fit a right hand chair to a UK bike. As it's QD
one only has to make it as far as the Port when its in use. Or the bike
could be kept registered abroad. Wonder what Ireland/IoM say.

I've looked at the mounts here
    www.mobec.de/news/532760979f0d2a313/index.html
Doesn't look difficult to achieve. In fact it could be easier than a
conventional chair. Just needs that removable lock-up bar for ice and snow.
I've tried emailing them (in English) asking if they will provide a frame
    without the seating.

I'd imagine that because both those countries drive on the same side
of the road as us they'd have similar regulations regarding sidecar
    fitment.

Even if the sidecar is easily removed you'd have to have it shipped to
a ferry port of your choice, fit it to the bike, remove it on your
return and ship it back to wherever you plan to keep it. Have you
    really thought this through properly?

Just buy a sub £500 sidecar and either bolt it to your RS or buy a
shite old K100 and fit it to that. It's not as if you'd be doing a
massive amount of miles on it so you could buy a bike with 100k miles
on it as long as it had some kind of service history. £1500 would see
the whole job done and that includes paying for some fabrication work.

How many Plod would know or realise? anyway I understood the law was to be
changed as it doesn't make sense when vehicles pass freely across the
    channel.
If it comes to it I'll pick up a SO sidecar or a complete outfit. I'd like a
decent leaning load carrier for touring/camping longer term.
Obviously a 100bhp K is a pretty ideal and cheap tractor unit. Using the
centrestand mount and a wrap around front brace it would be easy. Mock up in
wood and copper tube - pass to Workshop for X off. Making the basic sidecar
frame is easy, we did that years ago.
I realise that free time is short for you though.

I just heard a Jap four changing down through the gears as it approached
the bend outside my house, then through my window I saw a purple Mini go by.
    It must be spring again.

I notice they have one called the Sidewinder. I used to have a CM250
with the original Sidewinder, back in the 80s.

Have a scout about for one of them, perhaps? ;-)

  12. That puts me in mind of those light-blue disabled cars that you used to
see a lot in the 70's.

My Grandad had one [1] and when I was little I used to squeeze down the
side of his seat and perch on the battery box on our trips to the Club.

  19. Yup, nice one. That's the fellow! I actually spent 10 mins googling
before making my original post to try to find out what they were
    called. I failed, obviously.

(Can't reply to Catman's original post by virtue of the fact that
ClaraNews appears to be a steaming pile of dog poo - I really must
upgrade to a news service that actually works).

ClaraNews was started becoming a steaming pile of dog poo shortlyu after
I left. There was no causal relationship between the events.
