Just bought the box set and re-watched Alien. There is a scene at the end
where she finds Dallas and Brett all wrapped up in Alien shit and Dallas
begs to be killed so she fries them.

I don't remember that bit, was it in the original version?

I vaguely remember something like that, but I'm not entirely sure. I do
recall the "kill me" bit in Resurrection, with the failed Ripley clones,
where she cuts loose with the flame-thrower again.

Extra scenes filmed but not included, due to pacing problems:
a.. Ripley finds Dallas and Brett cocooned. Dallas is covered in maggots
and begs Ripley to kill him. She does so with a flame thrower.
b.. Ripley and Lambert discuss whether Ash has sex or not.
c.. Alternative death scene for Brett: Ripley and Parker come across an
alive Brett being lifted from the ground.

No, they took it out because it spoiled the pace of the film. Is it the
Quadrilogy set you've got? Watch the special editon of Alien 3 if it is,
the dog is replaced by a big buffalo type thing, and theres quite a few
extra bits, when they're trying to burn it into the waste dump room, and
with the crazy guy. Also a few bits that were never fully edited, and so the
sound is all crappy on them.

It's been on one of the TV versions - possibly the director's cuts they
were showing on Sky last year.

Interesting. Can't be arsed to get my (admittedly very) old copy out. Is
yours the Alan Dean Foster one? It may have been re-written, or I could
    just be wrong.

  15. Yep, to be precise the "Complete omnibus" edition that came out when
there were only three films. Page 210. And now I'm off to get a
    life.

I have that very book, but also the 'original' somewhere. I might check,
but I'm happy to take your word on it

  19. I read a version of Alien?( I can't remember what it was called ) in the
late 60s and from my memory it had all the bits of the first Alien film.
I've looked for clues to what it was but no luck.
Any one know what the original book was?
