I'm nearish but I know sod all about cars and, between you and me, would
probably tell you it was in top condition when it wasn't just to have a
    cheap laugh at your expense.

A random trawl through e-bay has turned up an Audi Coupe Quattro for sale in
Hinckley, in which I am rather interested.

However, as they are bastard expensive cars to fix if they're not working
properly and as I'm a fair old way from Leicestershire I was wondering if
anybody here would be able to go and have a look at it for me.

Anybody interested? A pint or two may be proffered in your general
    direction for such services.

It's hard to believe that you know less about cars than myself and I've
managed to buy one of these things before.

Mind you, the fuel pump did pack up within the first week of my ownership.

The other thing is that, as my car does about 20 miles a week, it could be
months and months before I found out I'd bought a shitter.

That's a bit too much of a pause before the punchline, I think.

    That's the very fella.

I owned a silver one a few years ago and as a SOC it rocked.

Any info from JP would be great, thanks.

The Audi in question is 18 years old and is currently at £230 on e-bay, does
that alter your comments at all?

I've got a Golf. It's okay, nothing special, in fact no more or less
special than any other car I have owned.
I think you should seek help, if German cars / their drivers provoke such a
strong emotion you clearly need some kind of support.
I too have never been flashed by a marquee, but I did once have a teepee
    show me it's tits ;)
A car is a car is a car, it has four wheels and gets you from A to B. Where
it was made is immaterial, it's just a mechanical device, like a dishwasher
    or cooker.
I think you are missing the point. Having previously had satisfactory
ownership of the same type of car, the OP has now seen a similar one he
fancies, AIUI getting a newer car is not the issue here.
I doubt it would be immune from tax (I don't think it's old enough for
that), but certainly classic car insurance can be a benefit of owning a SOC.
    Most odd.
    So I have heard.

    impressed.

It wasn't my intention to impress you - it's just that you were recommending
that I buy a fairly new car, which I obviously couldn't do for that sort of
    money.
And I've owned a 1986 Audi Coupe Quattro before and thought it was a great
car, which is why I want another one.
It's nowhere near being immune from tax and never will be, as the Gubbmint
has fixed that date for that. Insurance is fairly reasonable though, I've
been quoted £300 TPFT, which isn't bad as the car is group 17 or 18, IIRC.

As for buying a Skoda ... I've already got a SOC, my Orion, this one is just
    for fun.

Fair enough...everyone has a grudge to bear about something. You and OB are
probably right in your analysis about my attitude towards them being
somewhat unhinged. I can say that part of it comes from my personal
experience of road behaviour. If its a cheap nack and gets the job done and
is reliable, fair enough. My opinions and rants are my own and I recognise
    that.

By the way I wasnt generalisign about you personally....just generalising
about some that drive things like Mercs, Beemers etc (mostly newer ones),
many are basically taxis (anywhere in spanish islands forinstance), but over
here generally tend to be management staff etc who think they are the bess
knees because they drive what is a german version of any other make you can
think of estate/saloon car. Reflects on the way that they carry themselves
    in life too. W****s basically.
Its a funny old world of cars makes and models, and Im just recognising that
    it influences peoples driving behaviors.

Ive seen BMW drivers acting like tits and undertaking on motorways and
nearly writing off their car and others, just to get ahead of me when ive
been doing 90+ with only a reasonable stopping distance between myself and
car in front. WTF is wrong with people like that? I just dont see that
lunacy quite so much with other cars, but maybe thats just my personal
    experience.

Course same daft behaviour riding can apply to motorcycling too. I think if
you can enjoy driving, without putting anyone else in danger, you cant be
doing too bad whatever you ride/drive. I do my best to achieve this why I
might say cant be said of all on the road.

I do hate seeing prestige label against run of the mill stuff, and thats
another aspect to fuel my prejudices, you can see people with a 3 series etc
putting it in this category in car marts because they seem to think it fits,
I think that marquee should be reserved for Jags, Astons, etc and its
    unfortunate many dont recognise this.
Also recognising back to the days I even used to make a bit fuss about
having a mk1 Golf GTI I when I was a wee bit smaller - well all modern cars
are injected nowdays like my Fabia - nippy enough and furnished better. With
the car what I got now, I dont have to worry about crap like rusty fuel
tanks and blocked injectors and major corrosion.

Any car, looked after well enough should be worth a look given a good
history, anyway hope the audi is yours if thats what you really want - just
not my cup of tea thats my opinion.

I think it's difficult to get a fag paper between Nuneaton and Bedworth
for full-on chavness. Bedworth has the ever lovely concrete civic
centre of course, and Nuneaton the very popular Pool bank car park
should you be running low on poor quality amphetimene.

Both towns have more than one MacDonalds, which I think says more about
the people who live there than anything I could write.

  18. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Tone"
    Not for a long time.
Well yes. But what you save on insurance is eaten up by repair costs if
    you choose wrong.
Your point about Merc taxis was true enough - they make great taxis, but
    so do Toyotas.
