Nigel, a question if you will.

Can you tell me EXACTLY which model it is? I'm attempting to get some info
on how the tank/panels were finished at the time of manufacture.
Specifically, if the decls were under the lacquer or over it. I know the
original paint wouldn't likely have been 2 pack, but the *some* sort of
lacquer (cellulose probably) would still have been needed as silver doesn't
have its own gloss and I'd like to get it looking as good as possible and as
true to original as I can.

No worries, I need to get the tank removed and drained and I waiting on
the decals arriving from Norvil, so I'll give you a bell when they're
here and venture over to darkest Bedfordshire.

It's an 850 Roadster.

Original I'm not that fussed about, to be honest (I know, I know, burn
the Heretic). I think the side panels will be best plain silver with the
black "850 Commando" decals applied. The tank I want silver, with the
black "Norton" decals and a nice red & black pinstripe running around
the outline of the tank. Width of pinstripe and exact placement I will
leave to you, since I'm crap at this sort of stuff. "Just make it look
nice".

I should point out that I ran the Mk IIb Pip-Scanner over it at the
weekend and the fickle Ginga finger of fate pointed to a bit on the side
of the tank that he reckons might be filler. I guess we'll see when the
old paint comes off...

Nah, I'm with you on that, but I wasn't sure you would be (did that make
sense?)

Will do.

That's why I want to get the paint off. Not that there's anything wrong with
filler, but it should be GOOD filler and it should be undetectable. My Zed
has a touch of filler as does Christofire's tank, frame and swingarm but
no-one who's seen the bikes can tell where it is.


I'll just get on with it as if it were my own.
