Is Ronnie Scotts a good place to take a burd you don't know too well?

depends on your (collective) tastes and intentions.

Jazz is a huge genre and a lot of people can be quite fussy - so it
could be easy to have a shit night if say, you don't really like Jazz,
she loves the Trad stuff and you end up seeing an experimental impromptu
    group.

However, if you score well, then you could score really well. IYSWIM.

Yeah, without a doubt. It's got the coolest atmosphere. It's quite
dark, and because it's music, you don't have to (can't) talk too much.

You can eat there, if you want, but you don't have to. Food's not
stunning, but it's not *bad* and it's not expensive (for Central
London). It may be best to go out for dinner somewhere round there,
get the talking over with, then take her on to Ronnie's to show her
what a suave sophisticated motherfucker you are.

The acoustics are the best of any jazz club in the world.

Superb photos on the walls - all the greats, every one of them, in
session at Ronnie's. Worth strolling round and having a look.

The evening will be in two halves: the support act and then the main
act and that "half" will be done by midnight - when a lot of people
slip out to get the night-bus home. The second half is the support
act and the main act again, and is often more intimate, with more
banter with the audience. They seem to put more into the second set,
because they know that the people who've stayed have made an effort.

One thing: turn your mobile OFF (not onto silent) when you walk
through the door. Or you'll be killed. And you'll deserve it.

When are you thinking of going? Who's on?

    Have a good time!

    What?

When was the last time you were there?

Prices are the same as any Central London location:

Christ, you can pay more for a pint at the bar in Fenchurch Street
    station.
    I've never had any complaints.

    Ben Blaney says...
Not sure yet. I've met this stunning blonde burd who's got a liking for
Jazz, she plays the sax as well. I was thinking of going in the next
few weeks, so I'll check out who's perfoming and ask for your opinion,
    if that's OK.

She knows I haven't a clue about Jazz, even though I like a fair bit of
it, so I think she'll appreciate me doing my homework and making it a
good night. I'm going to probe her on what style of jazz she likes
first, because it varies widely from what I can tell.
    I fully intend to, thanks.

Sure. I'm a bit out of touch, though.

I see that Rachel Z's week finishes tonight. That's a shame because
she's good. I saw her at Ronnie's a couple of years ago. She's in an
    all-girl band [0]

Jamie Cullum's got two weeks: last of August and first of September,
but the website says it's all booked up.

Jose Neto's some Brazilian geezer. I was going to see him a while
back... but didn't, for some arcane reason.

Georgie Fame might well be good fun. I'm going to be in London the
week of the 12th September, so I may well be going myself - probably
on Wednesday... so... avoid Wednesday, lozzo (don't want your bird
    thinking you associate with cunts).
    It does indeed. Good plan.
Let us know how it goes.

I've never, ever heard that. And I've never, ever experienced it.

So I guess it's your anecdotal evidence plays my anecdotal evidence,
    huh?
