  1. Servicing .... no probs (ish).

New battery, fitted without a problem, ABS woes cured.

Engine Oil & Filter, Gearbox Oil, Final Drive Oil, all changed.

New short Hagon rear shocker fitted with minimal skin loss.

    Air filter .... hmmmm.

Knee Panels - off, Middle fairing sections - off (after a little of
persuasion with a couple of well rusted screws).

Break right hand mirror pod (feck).

Pop off airbox intake tube and tube that goes to what I guess is a plenum
chamber, Pop spring clips off lid, lose one clip down back of gearbox.

Retrieve clip with pike fishing forceps - result !

Fecking airbox lid still won't budge.

Find wires disappearing into airbox lid, so seat up, ECU out, tool tray out.

Grope around hopefully for 10 mins trying to find wires that go into airbox.

Gave up - went in for a brew.

So, how the **** does the tank come off ?

Or is their a quick and easy way of changing the air filter without all this
    malarkey.

No need to remove the tank for the airbox. ISTR that there's 3 clips holding
the top of the airbox to the bottom. They get a bit "sticky" if they've not
been moved for a while which sounds like your problem.

From what I recall on my KRS it was just a matter of popping the clips and
giving the top half a mild thump with the palm of the hand to release it
    then wriggle the filter out.

Do you have to grease the splines on a K?
A little lube, a lot of rubbing.

  4. Yup, I'll be doing that at the weekend.
Seeing as the final drive and gearbox are both sealed units I can do the
    servicing bits step by step.
    Pervert. :p

(Are you (a) on the later ferry, and (b) taking the sidecarp over on the
    French Run ?)

  5. Looks like I was close - but couldn't see the clips holding the rear of the
    tank.

    Will have another bash tomorrow.

PS to remove the tank from a K100RS
remove the left hand fairing inner (2 screws at top, 1 under fairing)

at front left of tank are the fuel pipes unscrew the clamps, and slide them
down the pipes, then slide the pipes off the tank, they can be tough to move
because they've been clamped on for a while :)

remove right sidepanel under which is the fuel tank power feed, disconnect
    it.

on later k's (which ISTR yours is) there are two clips that hold the tank in
two rubbers at the rear of the tank. (On early ones theres a plate with a 10
mm bolt.). Remove the two clips and lift the tank up and off.

I appear to be on the early one, if I can make it in time. I see you've
been tucked up with the Northerners, slow cunts and Ogden. The outfit will
remain in its cupboard, as Madame refuses to have anything to do with it.

I'm supposedly on the later one. I'm staying in Dover-ish the night before.
Other parties are staying at the same hotel, or live in the vicinity.
Depending on my levels of sobriety and sexual magnetism I may make the
    early ferry...

  12. Yup, I did wonder why Mr Murray put me on the later one.

I'm also staying at the Swingate Inn (Dover) on Thursday night, so with
TOG's approval will happily swap my later crossing for an earlier one with
someone who has a longer trip to make that morning. Please arrange through
TOG though so we don't **** his planning up.

This is UKRM. People will miss the 1st ferry. Someone might crash in the
1.5 miles from the hotel to Eastern Docks.

Oh, and depending on hangover etc, P&O have earleir ferries than 1055. They
will probably be very happy to have some of the bikes on the 0915 or 1005.

    Lunch in Ypres, maybe?

All this first ferry/second ferry shit is just indicative. Shit wiil
happen, bikes will be binned, people will be late. FFS on the Elefant we
had a DNF, bits falling off, bikes falling over, concussion, a Golden
Catherine Wheel incident and several instances of navigational inexactitude,
and that was with only seven starters.

When I last changed the air filter, I managed without having to
disconnect the fuel lines. With the knee-pads off, I just lifted the
rear of the fuel tank directly upwards (off the frame monted rubber
grommets), the slid it backwards (to release it from the bushes behind
the steering head), and then slid/rotated the tank to the left, where I
let it rest against the fairing (with some cloth between the two to
avoid scratching the tank). Then, with a bit of wiggling it was possible
to replace the air filter without any further major disassembly. Which I
    was very pleased with.
