funnily enough there's a (admittedly very small) chance I might also
be starting a job at Heathrow soon too. Bear in mind Enfield isn't
particularly convenient for Heathrow, if you're travelling by car.

Also, again, in connection with my recent medication, I'm not supposed
to drink anything for at least another two weeks...but I think you can
guess my response to that one.

it's about 90-120 minutes away whichever way you look at it, by car or
public transport. A little less by bike, if the North Circ isn't
    fucked.

Our new MD doesn't seem to grasp the amount of time it takes to travel
around London and his answer to everything is to go to google maps or
his satnav and see how long they say a journey will take.

He also seems to think that the underground system covers everything
inside the M25. You might think this wouldn't create a problem but it
does when all the techs are northern monkeys and believe him when he
tells them to just nip down the M1 until they're inside the M25 then
get the tube the rest of the way to wherever they're working.

I would never rely on either for timings in London, because they
simply ignore the amount of time you sit for 10 minutes at a time
waiting for a set of lights to turn red to green to red to green about
5 times before you get through the junction.
well, it actually goes outside of the M25 in a few places, and fails
to cover a lot that is in fact within the M25, but that's a whole
    separate kettle of shit.
it's not /too/ bad if you're heading into the centre from most places,
but trying to get across town, or any journey at all that requires the
district or circle lines, and you're fucked. Even the direct straight
route from the nearest(ish) tube from here (Oakwood) the whole way
across the Piccadilly line to heathrow can can take the guts of 2
hours at peak times (and I mean peak times for tourists getting on and
off in the West End/Knightsbridge etc. rather than the actual rush
    hour).

Perhaps you should point out to your boss that "Greater London" as in
the modern usage as "inside the M25" is over 600 square miles,
containing a population of 7.5 million people, and the "Greater London
Urban Area" (which includes a few conjoined bits just outside the M25
is about another 30 square miles and another million people.

    London's quite big, really.

  11. When I came out to Brunel (from New Barnet) for my job interview, I
decided to take the Piccadilly line back to Arnos Grove, where I normally
caught a bus back home when I worked at UCL. It was ...interesting. I
think it was over two hours, not including the walk from Brunel to Uxbridge
(~20 minutes) or the bus from Arnos Grove to home...

Until I found a place in Uxbridge I travelled on buses, via Mill
Hill Bwy to Harrow, where I could use my Z56 Travelcard to get to UXB (as well
as all buses each end). Then there was the ignorant bus driver on the 326
at Totteridge and Whetstone one night who didn't realise any Travelcard
allowed travel on any bus (his was Z4 at that stage) -- angry letters
    followed.

Interestingly, in the month or so that I travelled that route I
had three buses die under me, two on the Mill Hill-Totteridge section, and
one at my stop at Longmore Ave (well, it didn't move off after I'd alighted).
