I need to find a decent hotel in Aberystwyth for Wednesday evening this
    week.

Having had a quick look on Google, I can't really find anything I'd
    consider suitable - any suggestions?

There isn't anything worth staying in. It's a horrid shithole full of
    students.

I'd go down the coast to Aberaeron and stay in the Monachty Arms which is
now owned by Brains and has a nice location in the harbour.

and google threw up this nice looking place in the village where I was born
    http://www.monachtymansion.co.uk/ seems nice for £35

Well, yes. I did find somewhere nice in Lampeter, but Aberystwyth has
    been specified.
Now, for me, that would be fine. For my boss.... definitely not.
And those two aren't what I've been instructed to look for, either.

Has to be somewhere with stuff like internet access and a decent phone
    signal.

    Yup, I saw that.

    Looks alright, actually.
'quite good and cheap' aren't the criteria.
Looking for somewhere suitable to take my boss for the evening.

He would usually stay in the Celtic Manor or Marriott in Swansea when
visiting Wales, but we're spending the day in mid / west Wales, so those
    two aren't really viable.

Well, I assumed it was for you and recommended accordingly.

Mined ewe, several pints of SA and fish & chips on the quay may bring your
boss closer to his target market. Or at least persuade him that the area is
not yet ready for exploitation by Germanic corporatism.

  10. Agreed, you won't find a lot better round that neck of the woods.

Stayed at the Conrah a few times over the last couple of years, it's not a
"Compleat Angler" (which was v.nice last month for a 2day sales meet), but
its as about as good as you'll get in the vicinity.

Well, yes. It's getting a bit chilly for the British OAPs there nwo.
They'll all be off to Benidorm & the Canaries now that half term is over.

That place will probably be full of benefit claimants until the Xmas office
party season kicks in. Ideal place for a few months what with all the cheap
student booze & wide choice of narcotics. I imagine they have a DWP waiting
    list.

Have stayed at the Prince of Wales on the front, 5 minutes from the
promenade, a couple of times. From what I can remember [1], it was nice.

[1] Wedding of friends [2] and a weekend without the kids staying at
    the friends house again.

[2] I was pissed as a fart and could only remember the night when I saw
    the photographs.

For future reference, the Metropole in Llandrindod Wells is superb (if
a little spendy), & the roads from Llandod to Aber rock mightily.

For something a little closer but very basic, the Lion Royal[1] in
Rhayader is a fantastic old building with the biggest fireplace you've
ever seen, & the owner (Mary) will keep you amused for hours with her
stories. Very biker friendly too - she used to be an engineer a few
hundred years ago[2] & spent her youth whizzing around on various old
    sheds.

[1] http://www.lionroyal.co.uk/ - the XR400 on the 'Trail Riding' page
    is mine.

[2] She must be at least 400 years old. Bugger knows how she still
    manages to run the place.

A red kite took up residence near here[1] last summer. I hadn't seen any
this far east before. Last week I noticed that it has paired up so I
imagine we'll be having some young ones in the spring and they'll have to
**** off to England when dad boots them out.
