Paging browser geeks

  1. Anyone else downloading Chrome? When they said "this evening", I didn't
think I'd have to wait 'till blimmin' 11pm! The excitement is almost too
    much!

  3. Is Chrome any good? I've tried Safari, and while I quite like it, it
crashes a lot, especially when opening additional tabs or flash content.

  4. No idea yet, 2 hours to before downloads are go. It's a beta but hey,
anything new is worth a try, iyam. It's interesting that the profiles folder
in Firefox is called chrome, don't know if there's any connection there.
I've never tried safari but chrome is supposed to be the next generation of
browser that can handle addition stuff that current stuff is finding
    challenging to deal with.

    Give it a go. 11 o'clock is "D-Day".

Safari on Mac runs like shit off a shovel, and is stable as ****.

But I'll give 'chrome' a gander when they bring out a Mac version...

Eh? It's available now from the Google home page. I'm using it. It's
quite nice. But basically, it's a web browser. It really doesn't
matter much which one you use - they're all good.

No connection, other than a startling lack of originality from Google.

"Chrome" is just a fairly widespread term (it almost certainly
originated from Mozilla, but it's in use more widely than that now) for
the UI "fluff", where there's a strong degree of separation from the
    mechanicals.

It's alright, but nothing fancy. Strangely though, it uses IE for the
proxy set up. I do like the fact that you can drag tabs to open them up
    in separate windows though.

This thread raised my interest, googled for Google Chrome and found this
on-line comic book which explains why Chrome should be considered...

Just installed Chrome, then installed Flash, loaded YouTube - & it
locked up solid. It's also noticeably slower than IE on this laptop.

Because it wouldn't display any flash stuff until I did.

worked with youtube & other flash stuff from install here, no jiggery
    pokery needed.

I'm with Simonk, though. It's a browser, it mostly works fine, just like
    Firefox & IE.

The Egg aggregation site doesn't like it. The site will only pull in data
from other institutions if one uses IE.

    That's probably cos:

    1. It's a beta browser
    2. It's not recognised by Egg yet on their servers.

Sensible secure sites won't let Chrome touch their data or pages yet. See the
    NWOLB thread up there.

  20. Ah, thank you, that makes sense then, just about everything about the
browser is "outside" of it! Heh, cheers ;)
