Hmm, this judgement might have been overturned by now I suppose.

Perhaps Champ had a 'skip permit' for it?

    Bear says...
I found this on my windscreen one day:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/78131584@N00/181977867/

I stuck this in the windscreen the next time I parked there:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/78131584@N00/181977869/

I didn't get anything more put on my windscreen after I threatened an
old bloke who knocked on my door with being reported for criminal
damage, if he as much as brushed against the Golf he'd been sticking
things on. He stupidly admitted to being one of those doing it.

Btw, the only 4x4 owned by anyone in that road is a poxy Suzuki Jimny,
    hardly large by anyone's standards.

Imagine you're trundling down the road in your new car, & a driverless
car rolls into the side of you because it was parked on a hill & the
handbrake cable snapped. That's the sort of scenario they use to
    justify it.

Indeed. See Elliott v Grey (1960). "Mischief" and "hazard", m'lud.

I doubt plod will be the slightest bit interested though, how could they
possibly provide evidence of the facts required to lay an information
    for prosecution?

Just once is once too often. And if you weren't a radicalised terrorist
sympathiser, you'd realise that. If only we had ID cards, this sort of
    senseless mayhem could be avoided.

Less than once on average I should imagine. There are other more likely
scenarios though, such as scrotes breaking into cars & taking the
    handbrake off.

ITYF your insurance policy is likey to have small print saying you're
entitled to TPO cover on another car *only* if it's insured by the
    person loaning it.

Oh no, not this old chestnut again...

I'll start the ball rolling by confirming that none of my cage
insurance policies have ever specified that, & it's something I always
check for purely out of interest.

A known (to the owners, anyway) issue with Leons is that you can park
up, set the handbrake so it holds the car, then about 5-10 mins later
(presumably when the brakes cool) the car rolls off. I've heard a
number of tales of this happening, but the manufacturer refuses to
    recognise it as a fault.

It's always left in gear when parked, hill or not.

    Aye, so it would seem.
I certainly checked on occasion, but never found it. It's a standard
response that phone sales-droids seem to have programmed in, as I've
asked and been told it's so when getting insurance in the UK in the
past, but likewise failed to find anywhere that it's mentioned in the
policy. All else apart, if there were such a stipulation it would be
writ large on the certificate, wouldn't it?

The whole was that motor insurance is set up in the UK is shite anyway
    - almost everywhere else the owner insures the car and then it's
insured, full stop. The idea that in some situations you need two
policies to cover one vehicle is fucking loonacy.

There are perhaps some exceptions, like you'd have to pay extra to let
kids under 25 drive, etc. but in general every vehicle, certainly in
France and Switzerland, is just insured for anyone to drive.

    No. You didn't.
Agreed ^= concluded. If you had made a successful sale it would be the
buyer who'd had his car nicked, not you.
