I was going to have a plate made up in the south of France when I was
last there, with the Monaco emblem on the side strip. They looked quite
cool and only slightly different to UK plates

    What did you expect?

Labour: the party that believes in the individual's right to freedom
    of expression ...

... as something to be stamped on.

    You will conform.

This has been a partly political broadcast on behalf of the "We're in
charge now, so do as you're fucking told" party.

It's depressing to think that Cameron might get in at the next round
    though.

We've been here before. The institution of having to present your V5
and supporting ID confirmation in order to get a plate - that was only
a couple of years ago. The flap about whether plate makers were going
to implant ID chips in plates, that was just before then.

This is only the latest in a line of such measures, the effect of
which dissipates within a few months. Not worth being concerned about
    - even if it does bite, otehr avenues will present themselves to the
community who feel the need to compensate for their penis size through
    fancy or odd-sized plates.

The locations for all these mobile speed detectorators are publicised
on the appropriate websites in advance, aren't they?

The need for a GPS with camera locations on it grows on a daily basis,
    however.

I've often wondered, especially with the preponderance of digital photo
frames, whether it would be possible to make a legal number plate (with
a fixed display of course) from an LCD display.

The DVLA site leads me to think it is.

Well for sure another term of labour will only add to losses.
Much the same way I feel about labour, but it's either a protest vote
or Tory. Not that it makes any difference where I live now and have
lived for the past elections - essentially a small rodent would get in
as long as it has a blue badge.

    $:

M4 in S Wales, although they tend to concentrate on the bit near the toll
booths since the introduction of the 50mph limit. Hundreds of NIPs issued
    every day apparently.

The A40/449 dual carriageways either side of Raglan are also another
    favourite

on the A449 southbound they have two favoured spots. The first is between
the Raglan & Usk junctions. They use one of the bridges just after the long
straight. You come around a lovely fast sweeper and zap. I got my last 3
points here, many years ago when plod was using the same ploy, only located
in a layby and secreted behind a parked lorry.

The second one is immediately after the Wentwood services where you come
over the brow of the hill and again, zap.

I haven't seen them on the A449 northbound. Pickings are obviously less
    rich.

On the A40, eastbound, going from Abergavenny to Raglan they are often
about 2 miles from the roundabout at Aber. Again, they lurk around a left
hand sweeper just after a long straight. My sister got done by this one.

The plates thing isn't entirely surprising, as the road charging (and
lite) scheme(s) will probably rely on your plates to track you.
They've admitted that as soon as there's more incentive we'll be
seeing a lot more fake plates about.
