    Challenge the fucking thing.

Ask for pictures, calibration certificates etc. etc. do not admit you
were driving immediately, do not fill in their form.

I played this game a while back and escaped an alleged 106 in a 70...

Who knows, you might be lucky and come across a lazy fucker who can't be
bothered answering letters. At the very least you'll make the buggers
work for their money... and hopefully snarl the whole nasty process up.

I think I had two or three letters before I admitted to being the
driver. The last I sent was:

    ////////////////////////////////////////////

I refer to the above detailed matter. Whilst I confirm I was the driver
at the time of the alleged offence, I dispute the speed recorded. Would
you please forward to me the following information:

    1. Please identify fully the operator of the equipment at the time
    of the alleged offence.

    2. Please supply all valid/current training and procedure
    certificates for the said operator.

    3. Please provide full identification of the actual equipment used
    to record the alleged offence.

    4. Please supply all maintenance and calibration records for the
    identified equipment.

    5. I would like proper documentation that states that all
calibration procedures for the actual site have been actioned
accordingly and noted by the equipment operator.

    6. Please identify the exact location of equipment used to record
    the alleged offence.

    7. Where available, please provide all photographic evidence of the
    alleged offence.

    8. Please provide documentation that the site used was totally
suitable for this type of equipment and free from any type of
    contamination.

    9. Please provide all evidence available that the site used fulfils
any guidelines set down in legislation, i.e. length of site, eight or
more injury accidents in the preceding three years, etc.

    10. That the 85th percentile speed was greater than that detailed in
    the ACPO guidelines and recommendations.

    11. I would like a copy of the force's procedures for the use of
    this equipment.

I would like the information as soon as possible. I await your reply.

    ////////////////////////////////////////////

There response was the picture and a copy of the calibration
certificate, and a statement that they would supply further information
should the case come to court. It's now 18 months on and I haven't
    heard anything.

I think if this one was destined for court or would tot up to a ban
and/or I had lots of time on my hands I'd be fighting it like you suggest.

As it's one that can be handled entirely by post, and I know that the
info they have sent is bang on and time is in short supply around here,
I'm going to take it on the chin. Simply changing it from a postal
plea to a court appearance will take time and inevitably cost more.

Like TOG though, I'm going to keep your letter on file for when the
    inevitable happens
