To be honest, it wasn't *that* great a series. Fry is always worth
listening to, but here he is being so affable and gentle that it's
like listening to a innocuous uncle. His sharp wit is completely
    absent.

But, much of the scenery is stunning, and for that reason, it probably
repays getting blu-ray. And, as Bear says, once you have blu-ray why
would you bother with lesser format?

  3. Not forgetting that even a SD DVD often looks significantly better when
played on a Blu Ray player with HDMI cable (vs a DVD player with non
    HDMI connection).

My take on it, if there's a significant price difference, is pretty
much: "is there something in the film that warrants the Blu Ray".

Juno is a good example, the film itself doesn't warrant Blu Ray in any
way - however, the special edition and similar price points made it a no
    brainer.

Planet Earth and March of the Penguins, however, are worth paying
significantly more for the Blu Ray.

PS: Finally got In Bruges into the DVD player last night - fabulous.

But not everything *really* benefits from HD, though I suspect this might.

    I prefer "careful".

More seriously, I can only watch BD in the living room. DVD I can rip to
the network share or take with me when travelling. Ripping BD seems to
be more effort than I'm willing to commit. However, I'm willing to lose
that convenience if the content merits it.

Ripping BD is hard work at the moment. Only AnyDVD seems to do it,
and you have to pay for that. It does work pretty well, tho.
    Sure.

Nothing to do with DVD or Blu-Ray, but, god I love that phrase :)

The series was poor in itself, IMO. It needed to be far longer to show
more of each state, rather than ~10 states in a single one hour episode.

There were some interesting bits but that was the parts where I really
    wanted more depth.

Reading that back later, it would seem that I struggle to master the
compound sentence before I've had coffee.
