What's the situation cost like for a one day or overnight van rental in
    Carlisle??
This is to get the RD400 back to Belfast.

  2. To be honest, I have no idea. Last time I looked into renting a van,
about 5 years ago, it was about £60 plus fuel for 1 day hire of a SWB
Transit, which was used to take little bro back to uni at Preston.

I take it the RD is in or near Carlisle?

Umm no it's at the Pixie Nest so if you have any bright ideas or could
poke around I'd be really obliged.
I *think* I can get a ferry/bus over to your neck of the woods.

  5. Would it be cheaper and less hassle to crate it and get a carrier to
    deal with it?

I used to use Target Express for pallet loads over to your island,
reasonable prices (well, we shipped a lot) and good service.

  8. But a crate, wheel it in, fill with packing, nail end on crate.

Of course, I'm assuming it's a reasonably complete bike, rather than a
    bitsa in boxes.

Not very radical, it was my intention. Loz and WUN persuaded me
otherwise. New crank and pistons in an RD400 = lots of careful running
in. Also the disks are binding a little, probably needs a full calliper
    strip.
