    cheers.

I was thinking about this whole "being 40" thing on the way into work
today, and you know what - it really doesn't mean much to me at all -
the thing that struck me as the most fucked up bit though was that
it's a reminder that I've been subscribed to this fucking newsgroup
    for over a decade :-/

I'm actually almost totally cheerful today.
and if you were to top yourself, that'd be the icing on the cake.

    Why would it?

The weekend after my 40th, I went to Prague with 16 very good friends
and had a whale of a time. The weekend after that I met my current SO.

Being over forty rocks! And now I'm actually in the *right* age
bracket for being a grumpy old git, which is nice.
    Depressing, huh?

  6. Yep, happy birthday, Darsers.

Don't ask me to say that again because I'll have to bring flowers.

So far I've found being every age rocks, though for different reasons.

  12. Oh I don't know - so far it's no worse than 41.. (which was pretty crap
given that my diabetes was diagnosed on my 41st birthday..)

  13. Not sure if it's got owt to do with age or just lazing around a lot, but
at 43 my waist measurement was 32" and a bit. Weight was 11.5 st. Now
(approaching 46) the waist is 39" and weight 83 kg (13 st).

Perhaps it's just the total lack of stress.

PS: Just measured my waist and after lunch it's 40".

<g> I could just fancy a few tapas.

My waist is still a bit more than that, but it's coming down. I've
lost nearly 2 1/2 stone since I retired in April. In my case the lack
of stress meant I could now cope with dieting!

"This confirms other research that waist size, rather than overall
body weight, is a key indicator of heart disease."

That much I think is well known. However, the researchers also seem to
be implying, and certainly the media are inferring, that there is
causality - that by reducing your waist size you reduce the risk of
heart disease. I'm not sure that's been proven at all.

Oi Lozzo, we look like Ethiopians next to this lot.

In fact a 39 inch waist for only 13st when you are fairly tall is odd
indeed. You are clearly built of pipe cleaners.

Nearly 30kilos. Depends on what you weighed before. Say 100 kilos,
plus 180 for the bike. So weight loss is 30k from 280k, or 10%. So
maybe 0.3 sec off the 0-60. Not bad!

It's always amused me that Suzuki must spend thousands, nay millions,
in R&D working out how to shave a few grams here, a few grams there to
make the Gixer Thou the ulimate sportsbike[1]. And then Monz came
    along and bought one...

[1] Down! you 10R owners - this is only poetic licence.
