About servicing a Seiko Kinetic, apparently it has to go back to Seiko,
it'll take 6 to 8 weeks and cost about £95, "if they don't have to
replace too much". This is from my visit to H Samuel today.

  2. holy ****. 6 to 8 weeks is taking the piss.
Have you tried a more independat watch seller instead of tat-chain?

    following:
Yeah, try any number of those cunts at motorway service stations :)

Mr Heuer typically takes 8-12, so 6-8 isn't too bad...

  5. how the **** can it take so long, that's just bullshit. I'd love to do
some lean analysis on the end to end process - I bet it's utter cack.

My Krug - Baumen Oceanmaster is about 10 years old and has never needed
a service. You should buy a decent watch.

I've got a Casio, that hasn't needed servicing either. :)

I think, judging by the answers I was getting, they only send the thing
off to Seiko. Once it's posted off, it's out of their hands.

I'm not very convincing, usually half way through I realize I don't
actually care and sort of loose steam after that.
Good point Bear. Getting it back quickly would be nice, rather than
essential. I'll give Seiko in the UK a prod.

Won't fit. Got one of them complex safety clasp things.

I will be getting a Tissot this year though.

How do you choose a watch? Most of the "proper" ones seem too blingy
for my taste, and I don't fancy all this servicing lark. The last one
I had was a cheapo thing that got tatty after many years and straps,
then I couldn't be bothered with watches anymore.

I'd like one, but there doesn't seem to be such a thing as a subtle
    wristwatch.

  17. H Samuel are a bunch of incompetent shit heads. They are very close to
the top of my all time "worst ever customer service" chart. Go to a
    decent independent watch shop.

My current watch was bought from a tiny little shop opposite my office.
I got a watch I really like, it is superbly reliable and the actual
    purchasing "experience" was great.

  18. Metal strap is it? I completely hate metal watch straps. Trying to find
a leather strap of a decent quality that won't break or wear through
after a few months is something of a challenge too.

  19. I also hate blingy watches.

    http://www.mondaine.com/mdl/index.html

I think the above two options may include something within the
    definition of subtle.

My current watch is a Victorinox and I like it very much.

That's funny, my Seiko is the only watch I've not had a strap go on yet.
Non metal straps I tend to break easily.
