I used to, but don't any more. Mainly because this watch hasn't broken
in any way for the time I've had it, which is a miracle. A phone /
pocket watch or wrist watch usually lasts me a year[1]. Anything that
sticks around for longer has got to be good.

    [1]It breaks, or falls apart.

  2. Mechanical, dial easily readable and visible, no fancy stuff. Decent
solid construction helps - mine fell off mr wrist at 25mph in town when
the strap broke, and hit the road. It still worked after that, despite
some impressive scars in the casing.

    I've got one of these:

As well as my Grandpa's old 1940s Certina, which I had refurbished.

I don't like blingy watches either.

I thought that was rather cheaper than I was expecting.

  4. About the same as mine. Not much for something that should last a few
lifetimes. And watches will, if you look after them. And people tend to
loo after decent watches more than they do cheap plastic throwaways.

Mine went back to Seiko, for the same reason.
Came back after liberating me of nigh 100 sovs, never to work again.
Been back twice with no success.

IMHO Best to buy a new one and not waste money on the servicing.

It would be nice if the solidity extended to the strap, perhaps? ;)

Agreed. Buying a decent pricey leather strap is a start, though - the
cheap £4 ones last a few months, like you say. My current strap was
bought last summer in a decent watchmender in Corfu (of all places) and
(under recommendation) anointed vigorously with olive oil to preserve
    it. Seems to be working.

I daresay neatsfoot oil would work just as well.

As said up there, I don't wear one and haven't bothered. Felt a bit
weird for a while as I had worn one most of my life, but I don't miss
    it anymore.

Pah. You want a pocket watch with wifi, bluetooth and 1GB memory.
    Anything less is too reliable.

That's a nice functional watch. At least the strap can't fall off. :)

I Can see the attraction of a fine watch as a piece of precision
engineering and jewlery . bat as a timepiece I think that a
succession of cheap plastic throwaways make more sense.
So if the primary purpose is not to actually tell the time, but just
to look good its accuracy and reliability is not terribly important.

I seldom near a watch. when I do, it's a slightly tatty old thing, but
it Was my grandfather's so its function doesn't matter too much.
