  1. My Raymond Weil is the same, it has to go back ( they say ) to RW every
2 years or so for a service.

For an Omega I have I've used these guys - www.watchfinder.co.uk - and
they were great. Fast turnaround and a decent price. There's also a
company called SWICO in Surrey ( nothing on google but I have an e-mail
for their service manager ) who are the main importers of all swiss
watches and also the main repairer - it turns out that in fact it's
unlikely my RW went back to RW in Switzerland but instead was done at
their gaff...... grrrrrr. I don't know what other brands they repair
there but I'll give you the addy if you want to drop them a line.

Eh? Has to be fake for that money, surely? How can they get away with
    saying "all watches guaranteed genuine"?

    <looks at feedback>

    Weird.

    Even weirder.

Why on earth haven't eBay shut them down?[/QUOTE]

In your googling, did you ever come across a "real" Krug Baumen watch?
I've had a quick look and I couldn't find anything which didn't lead me
    back to the watches2u link.
Even the website mentioned by Lozzo is part of the watches2u setup,
which leads me to think that the Krug Baumen name is owned by them and
quite successfully marketed by them (judging by the number of hits I
    get on Google).

I've got an old automatic Garrard.

Presented to a George Ellis by the Marconi company after 37 years loyal
service; presumably in about 1976 judging by the hallmark.

Cost me £140 including service, new spectacle glass and strap. Keeps
excellent time and looks the bollocks without shouting "trying too hard".

No idea of its value though.

I must admit it's not a name I recognize and spending too much time on
planes, in hotels etc. has led to me having a fairly good
appreciation/label consciousness of pointless tat like expensive
watches, luggage, pens, shoes etc. etc. etc.

You know, the kind of things one purchases to help a fragile ego cope
with the knocks of day to day life and to develop a smokescreen of
'success' which the real (empty) person can hide behind.

    Aye your on form today.

I destroyed many a watch and started using a small seiko pocket watch
which worked well. A greatful ex supplier then graced me with this 'ere
Breitling Aerospace in all Ti. It's a delight to own and wear and has
lasted unscathed for 6 years through bike spills, swimming, baths,
sauna's, slamming doors et all. It appears to be almost unbreakable, I
never remove it, in the past I usually smashed the glasses or sea water
got them or I plain lost them. Just had it serviced as it finally needed
a new battery. £190 and 6 weeks. It came back as the day it was new. I
do expect it to outlast me however so I didn't mind and would recommend
them. They come up on ebay often enough, though one would only buy on
    sight.

Doesn't feel like it; there was a lot of self-criticism in that post.

I think I'm at my bitterest when describing myself in the third person.
Chap in one of my teams has one of these, he's also happy with it.

I came close to buying a Rolex GMT Master a couple of years back and
whilst I still on occasion wish I had I'm generally happy with the Omega
Speedmaster I bought instead. I would thoroughly recommend the Omega as
a trouble free, accurate watch. I've not submersed it in water for any
period but have knocked it more than a few times and it's still
    unmarked.

Maybe one day I'll feel fragile enough to need the Rolex.

I was lucky enough to be bought a Seamaster for my 40th birthday and I
really love it. Waterproof enough (300m) to mean you never need to take
it off and the "glass" is both very clear and really tough. A fantastic
    example of engineering beauty.

  8. Nice. I still sort of covet your railway watch, mind.

    Where have you been, then?

    Today? Glasgow.

The last two months? Busy doing new stuff. I've had to buy a new suit
    too.

You may like my new Smiths (my late Grandfathers 'day' watch):
    http://www.sweller.dynalias.org/images/smiths_watch.jpg

It's about 35mm across and dates from early fifties. I think - anyone
    know better?

Could do with a new spectacle.
