Cane says... I get this every time on my current pc. It's always done that and the pc I had before always did that too, and I had that one from new. Lozzo banged the rocks together and they said : Disconnect floppy. Disconnect all BUT ONE CD ROMs/RAMs & DVD ROMs/RAMs Unplug all cards from motherboard apart from a graphics card (if the mobo has built in graphics, use them and remove any plugged in gfx card) Go into BIOS and perform a reset (load BIOS power on Defaults). Still in BIOS change the boot order to CD/DVD and then HDD, disable all other devices. Bung Windows CD into drive and reboot machine. If that still doesn't boot somethings broke, nick parts from Pips PC to replace yours until it works
Now that is fucking spooky. I was discussing this with Loz as he left the building - just at the time you were typing this, and my advice to him was exactly what you've written, almost word for word. If he does, I'll shag more than his ear.
I have an Asus A7A266 (Socket A) mobo and looking through the manual the beep codes listed don't apply to what you're getting. ie 1 short beep is No error during POST, Long beeps in endless loop is no DRAM installed or detected, One long beep followed by three short beeps is Video Card not found or VC memory bad, and High frequency beeps when system is working is CPU overheated. So the book doesn't tell you anymore than you know, that something's fecked. So I'd look at the Chassis intrusion lead/jumper to see if this is on or off, a scanned pic of which I've just uploaded to Gmail drive, Paulxxx folder. If you want any more info from the manual, post back to newsgroup and I'll scan other pages, providing my CPU holds out ... eldest son tried overclocking it a week ago and it's now decidedly flaky at best .. Hope it helps.
Pip banged the rocks together and they said : Great minds and all that. I thought Loz shagged your ear, not the other way around? God, nightmares are made of this stuff!
Paul - xxx says... Thanks Paul, it does help. I'll try and download from the Gmail drive. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE (Black with added black bits) Suzuki Bandit 600S (Green with added shit bits) Yamaha SR250 Delusion (It's "Special") Homefucking is killing prostitution.
