  1. I read with interest about you working in insurance a while ago...

Is there anything I can tell a prospective broker that will lower my
premium? ATM, it's the TT99; six month ban for 12 points, my postcode
and the fact I have to start from scratch on the NCB that's killing me.

I've sidestepped this though, by putting Kay as the main driver and me
as a named driver. I've been completely honest and above board regarding
my ban and my current sabbatical status and it's still a shade under
£500 TPO and that's insuring it at Kay's house (band A)!

I haven't actually taken out the policy yet but it's the best I can find
but would still like to shave a couple of (hundred) quid off.

    Any ideas, mate?

I think he's missing an "otherwise".

Just my 2 penn'orth mate [1], but if Kay is not actually the main driver,
and the vehicle is not usually kept at hers I really would not go down this
    path [2].

[1] In a previous life, I spent 10 years as a motor insurance broker (back
    when dinosaurs roamed the earth).
[2] Insco's are no fools, I have known them use private investigators to
verify where a person / vehicle actually resides if they smell a rat.

  5. Hahahaha!

The idea was, and I told them this, that I was going to use it for a few
weeks to move stuff about for my flat and other bits that I can't carry
on a bike: that's when I *will* be the main driver. I also pointed out
that buying a crap van and using it for a few weeks is cheaper than
hiring. I would then be "giving" it my my good lady to use as she saw
fit - I'd just be paying for it.

Of course I'd have use of it but the bulk of my transport needs are
taken care of by my bike. I need a van to hump stuff like paving slabs,
furniture and and other bike unfriendly shite.

Not really anything else you can do mate. If it was comp cover then
I'd suggest a hefty voluntary excess. Even then the savings often
aren't of enough significance to outweigh the lump you'd have to pay
out in the event of a claim.
I'm inclined to agree with Oldbloke on this ... it has the potential
to open up a can of very nasty worms in the event of a claim.
Previously undisclosed details often come to light (albeit
unintentionally) at the time of a claim (invoices to different
    addresses and the such like).
Oh how true ... unusual but true.

Get a smaller bike as your bike?

I have got a nice little TS150 that I am sure we can do a deal on that
would cheer Blaneys ice cold heart.

  8. This is the problem. It will more than likely be spending it's life
there as well as here. I don't plan on using it round here too much
because of all the other charges involved like congestion tax and
parking tax for instance. I can buy parking tax, AKA parking permits for
my area at around 50p a day if I don't want to splash out on a years'
    worth, but that's too much.

What happens if I do decide to take it home because I CBA to drive it
back to the registered address and a PI spots it? Isn't it just the same
as parking it outside a mate's house that I happen to be visiting?
It's better to hear from SWK.
Well, it'll be half and half and I told them that. It isn't really any
cheaper to have me as a named driver as they foresee me driving it and I
have a big black stain on my licence.
