After many false starts I was thinking of changing the Fazer Thou to a
different type of big old bus. The intention is to buy it as a summer bike,
but inevitably my lack of self-motivation will mean I'm still hanging on to
it this coming winter and will end up riding it in salty conditions. Hence
what says the FOAK on the longevity of the CB1300SA used in inclement
weather? Any general reliability issues or problems to look out for?

Finally, I've seen a pristine 2008 example with 1836 miles on the clock in a
dealer for ukp5995. Do the FOAK have guidelines for what sort of price I
should try and beat them down to?

    Ta in advance.

I predict an imminent looming. With extra loom.

    And an authoritative opinion.

It's a considerably bigger old bus than a Fazer.
It's also quite tall, and the pillion perch is up in the gods.

    Upsides?
It pulls like a train from tickover. (see downsides)
It does around 37mpg round town, and 50mpg is easily achievable on a
relaxed hoon. Tank range in normal use is 160-180 miles.
ABS is a comfort, but the brakes are pretty tidy anyway.
Put Michelin Pilots on it, and you'll be happy.
It will hoon about, but you have to let it know who's boss - it's not
    21st century tech here - it's bit "old-school".
The little fairing cubby holes are dead handy.
There's acres of space under the seat.
The HISS system now flashes a red light in the dash, to look like an
    alarm.
There are dozens of 2nd hand pipes for them on Ebay.
With a Scotty, it's had its chain adjusted less than half a turn at
    each service.

    Downsides?
It runs out of revs too quickly.
    It's heavy.
    It's tall - did I mention that?
It's deathly quiet on the standard pipe.
Mine's a year old, 8k down the road, and comes up like new after the
    attentions of a hosing down.

The exhausts discolour very early on, so the pipes on the one you're
looking at have probably already gone. I think they're stainless, so
it's only discolouration, and not corrosion.
As a new one is now over £9k, that doesn't sound too horrible.
You coulda got a new one last March for six and a half.
    No idea.
