Leave out the tonic[1] and it might be OK.

    [1] Nasty bitter stuff.

I just tanned a bottle of it making Salty Dogs and for that it was just
    fine.

just compiling a home delivery from Tesco - they are offering me a litre of
Greenalls gin, 40% ABV, for a tenner if I spend over £30 on other stuff.

Does it make a palatable G&T?

    Yukk, indeed.
Odd, although I guess it's not _quite_ as bad as grapefruit or bitter
    lemon.

Ace described tonic as nasty bitter stuff - that's my view of grapefruit
juice[1]. I'm fine with the tonic.

[1] can't have it anyway as it reacts with simvastatin in some way.

I take it you still like bitter ale? I've started to put a few aside to
    bring down.

Bugger that bring on the Pimms.
TOG thought Saturday nights Pimms was 1 part Pimms to two parts Gin
but then he is a southern softie who was drinking north of Watford! He
even referred to his sunday state as below par for the first few hours
    until the coffee kicked in

I'm with Wessie on the grapefruit and Simvastatin. My GP calls
grapefruit "the devils juice" because he claims that it screws up more
medication than you can shake a stick at. Not sure quite how accurate
that is in these modern times.... wikkipedia does not give a numerical
value to stick shaking but perhaps WUN and the more experienced Morris
    Dancers may know.

He won't drink from cans. Although it is exactly the same product i.e.
brewery conditioned & pastuerised, just like in a keg. I've had canned
Ruddles County, Abbott, Tanglefoot & Old Speckeled Hen which taste the same
    as the bottled sibling.

As we are only going for a week I can put my stuff in the top box. I'll use
the throwovers for shopping: I should be able to get one of those cardboard
wine carriers in each side which can hold some ale on the way to Alsace and
some other stuff for me on the way back. If the fuckers break or pop the
caps in the heat then Bruce will get less beer.

Not that I'm creeping to get the nice room, like...

oh, and if you don't want gin they are doing Russian Standard vodka as an
    alternative.

There's some brown muck from Scotland as well. Probably alright for making
    a cake.

Oooh, yes indeed. But don't use the Irvine technique - it's better if
it stays in the bottle, rather than washing around the inside of a
    pannier.

TBH these days it all tastes so good I'm not sure I could tell the
difference any more. But there certainly used to be a difference, when
all the canned ones were using draughtflow systems - bottled beers are
brewed and conditioned quite differently to their draught siblings,
and the canned draught was never the same as the real thing.
Well that's the room I'm sleeping in...

    I knew about that :)

Just did a trial - the wine carrier fits, once I'd wrestled it through the
pannier's stupidly small orifice. Just needs a bit of extra corrugated
cardboard stuffed in there to stop the bottles rattling. They should be
    okay from a vibration POV.
